Insanity Points

Not much is known about the true cause or effects of insanity points. All that is known is that they are definitely a bad thing. It is said that anytime a player, while in character, breaks the 4th wall or meta games in any way, they get an insanity point. If their character witnesses a traumatic or horrific event, they get an insanity point. It is unknown what the accumulation of these points does to ones body and soul, but it can be assumed that it is not good. However, it is said that the Dabulon, a race of incredible Dank Meme Lords, use insanity points to strengthen themselves, becoming more and more meme-y and powerful. This is the only case of insanity points actually being beneficial, however.
Examples of cases when insanity points would be given to characters: -Witnessing a loved ones death -Going through literal hell -Breaking the 4th wall or meta gaming -Certain game changing mechanics, like taking another roll (only applies in certain scenarios) -Seeing the slaughter of innocents -Etc.
Basically anything that would be scarring to the character who witnessed it. It is said that insanity points, while being terrible for the mind, can be used for good. If brought to certain people, it is said that insanity points can be transformed into something more powerful. Something... Strange... It is unknown what exactly this means, but there are a lot of weird things and people out there, one of them has to know what to do with insanity, right?

Causes

It is unknown what causes insanity points to happen. It is said that the all powerful DM causes characters to suffer with these points, feeling the wrath and anger of players before them.
