Mika Nikatama
Mika Nikatama
Mika Reilly was another orphan girl stranded on Hecate Station. Her parents were both military, her father a navigation’s officer on one of the big destroyers while her mother was a mech pilot. Both were stationed on Hecate, taking leave to attend to Mika’s birth and the first several months of her life.
They were loving, good people who were well known and respected among their peers, and had a good life planned out for the three of them.
Unfortunately, it was never to be. The Reilly’s stayed in the military, rotating their shifts so that one of them was almost always with Mika, but on one of those rare instances when they were both on active duty simultaneously their destroyer came under fire while on pirate patrol in the asteroid belt. Normally, there would have been no contest, but that day the pirates were organized and smart. All hands were lost with the ship, and the Reilly’s never returned from the patrol.
Mika grew up in military orphanages, passed around to various military families that made their way through the station, but eventually the presence of this individual planetary force[ Need to figure out their specific nationality/affiliation] waned, and the families and the orphanages left the station. Mika was supposed to leave with them, but Hecate was the only home she had ever known, and so she simply disappeared into the depths of Tempest City, eventually to be forgotten and discarded. She was only 11 years old by this time, so it wasn’t long before she was picked up by the local security forces and turned in to child services, where she was put back into the system of various orphanages and failed integration into foster families. This is where she met Samiya and Anastasia, girls about her age who had similar tragedies in their lives. They bonded quickly, and were inseparable. But eventually, it became clear that Ana couldn’t stay on Hecate, that the void called to her, and so on her 18th birthday she left the trio behind.
It was only Sam and Mika now, and the two simply redoubled their efforts as hell raisers. But they were already 17, and it was only another year until they were free of the system that had entrapped them for so long already. They talked about what they would both do with their newfound freedom, and they talked about finding Ana and joining up with her crew, but Mika knew that Sam would never leave Hecate.
She considered staying with Sam, fulfilling the promise to always watch each other’s backs, but much like Ana she knew that the confines of any station, even one as colossal as Hecate, would feel like a shackle upon her soul. So, like her mother before her, she joined the first military service that would accept her on her 18th birthday, and began training for infantry, the marines, and eventually as a Mech pilot. Much like Ana, she kept in touch with the others, but duty took precedence and communication was never easy to begin with while in deep space. She fought in several major battles, but eventually she was forced to leave the military. Fortunately, by this time Ana had her own operation running, a small mercenary band that was in sore need of experienced pilots and their mechs. And so, happily, Mika joined up and brought her own mech, Calamity Jane, along.
