In the early years of the empire's expansion, magically and cybernetically enhanced space crafts were commissioned to manage rapid population growth. The ships, like The Orion, were designed to function was floating metropolises-cities to spawn the cosmos. When the plague ravaged, the floating cities were in the best position to flee.
