High Jarldom of Fyrst

The High Jarldom of Fyrst is one of the four principal provinces of the High Kingdom of Fjallheima and the personal domain of the High King. Centered on the royal seat of Fysthólm, Fyrst occupies the smallest—and most strategically vital—territory, nestled at the confluence of the Hrafn, Úlfa and Dádýr jarldoms in the eastern foothills of the Frozen Peaks. As the site of the High King’s hall, the royal armories and the Great Thing, Fyrst serves both as the political capital and the ceremonial heart of the kingdom.

Topographically, Fyrst features rolling pastures and dense pine forests that give way to treacherous mountain passes leading north into Úlfa or south toward Hrafn’s fertile valleys. Its soil sustains mixed farming—chiefly barley, oats and hardy livestock—while timber, copper from nearby upland veins, and the forge-craft of its many smiths sustain a thriving local economy.

Administratively, the High Jarl of Fyrst governs directly under the High King, presiding over the Fyrst Thing and overseeing the royal levy raised from Fyrst’s karls, thanes and housekarls. In peacetime, the jarldom maintains the king’s guard, supplies couriers and upkeeps the roads that radiate to each of Fjallheima’s other jarldoms; in war, its forces form the nucleus of the High King’s personal host, bannered beneath Fysthólm’s golden raven standard.
