Just Something We Do
Time puts distance between us all: whether it's repetition from a daily routine, someone you are in close proximity to, a neighbor who always waves as you pass by. Close friends now having grown distant, new friends turned adventuring confidant, enemies now lovers. It matters so little. What matters is the effort, what matters is the care put into the situation. The Children Of Vilorlith had a saying that sunk its teeth many of the philosophies across the lands of Namix. "Distance doesn't make the heart grow fonder, it only asks it to open once more."
The Children of Vilorlith, were by all accounts, some of the friendliest species to ever walk the countless worlds in their Divine Song. Having a habit of remembering names and faces despite decades having past, always being able to recount the last conversation they had with any particular individual. Some called them egotistical for their refusal to forget even the smallest details, some accused them of having eidetic memories. While this just wasn't the truth. They simply cared.
The Brownies cared not for when they last saw someone, they cared if it was reciprocal. Should they see someone they were fond of, even generations later, they would pick up where they left off. Hoping beyond all hope that they would be remembered, that they too would remember the joy they brought them even for the simplest things. The Brownies earned a reputation of being remembered for this very reason, decades, centuries, millennia later, they would always remember your name, what you meant to them.
To make friends with a Brownie was to earn a lifelong friend, a lifetime of small gestures to remind the soul that they had never been forgotten. As such the Children of the Great Mother usually wore a smile at all times, humming their arcane and metaphysically warping songs. To wrong a Brownie? Now, that was an event to be remembered, though they would smile, though they would wish you a full stomach, you would never forget that moment. They had another penchant for always carrying small things with them, something tasty, something valuable, something memorable. Whenever they'd bump into, intentionally or not, someone they hadn't seen for some time, they would try to rekindle anything they had left behind with gifts, questions or pleasant conversation.
