Just Something We Do

Time puts distance between us all: whether it's repetition from a daily routine, someone you are in close proximity to, a neighbor who always waves as you pass by. Close friends now having grown distant, new friends turned adventuring confidant, enemies now lovers. It matters so little. What matters is the effort, what matters is the care put into the situation. The Children Of Vilorlith had a saying that sunk its teeth many of the philosophies across the lands of Namix. "Distance doesn't make the heart grow fonder, it only asks it to open once more."

The Children of Vilorlith, were by all accounts, some of the friendliest species to ever walk the countless worlds in their Divine Song. Having a habit of remembering names and faces despite decades having past, always being able to recount the last conversation they had with any particular individual. Some called them egotistical for their refusal to forget even the smallest details, some accused them of having eidetic memories. While this just wasn't the truth. They simply cared.

The Brownies cared not for when they last saw someone, they cared if it was reciprocal. Should they see someone they were fond of, even generations later, they would pick up where they left off. Hoping beyond all hope that they would be remembered, that they too would remember the joy they brought them even for the simplest things. The Brownies earned a reputation of being remembered for this very reason, decades, centuries, millennia later, they would always remember your name, what you meant to them.

To make friends with a Brownie was to earn a lifelong friend, a lifetime of small gestures to remind the soul that they had never been forgotten. As such the Children of the Great Mother usually wore a smile at all times, humming their arcane and metaphysically warping songs. To wrong a Brownie? Now, that was an event to be remembered, though they would smile, though they would wish you a full stomach, you would never forget that moment. They had another penchant for always carrying small things with them, something tasty, something valuable, something memorable. Whenever they'd bump into, intentionally or not, someone they hadn't seen for some time, they would try to rekindle anything they had left behind with gifts, questions or pleasant conversation.

Significance

The Children of Vilorlith had made this such a staple in their own culture, that their entire race became synonymous with friendship. They shared this predilection with each other as much as they did with any of the other Four Divine Children. Earning them the single most tight knit society amongst them all. Considering themselves as one large Family, one very close group of friends. While they formed monogamous pairs with whom they chose, from the outside it in, it was very difficult to tell the difference between friend and lover. A situation they didn't see an issue with so much as anyone else.
Memory
"Anlyth!" It had been centuries since he had last heard that voice. All doubt vanishing from his mind as a tail snaked its way around his waist.   "Rythia." The Arch Valkyrie responded turning to see the Brownie woman standing tall enough to reach his waist. "It has been quite some time."   "When did that scar grace your face, it makes you look more." She paused contemplating for just a moment, "No, that is a sad wound. Are you alright?"   "Figh..."   "Think nothing of it, Friend. Forget I asked," Her tail tightened in what he had come to understand as a hug, "Besides, I just so happen to have something for you."   The Faery watched as the diminutive woman with ears far too large for her head pulled a bottle out of her bag, dusting it off with a puff of breath. "Is that?"   "Fire Wine! You mentioned it the last time we were on Grand Sol, I picked up a few bottles for myself, but I saved one for you." She said with a bright smile, handing him the ancient bottle.   "That was, what? Seven hundred years ago?" Anlyth answered slowly.   "What is your point, I guarantee it has aged beautifully." Her words made him smile for the first time in what felt like an eternity. Resting a hand on her tail and giving it a squeeze. "It's good to see you again, old Friend."
