The Ravaging

"No mortal can agree on what exactly happened during the Ravaging, some texts read of a natural cataclysm that destroyed Upursal. Others tell of a War between the Gods that brought untold death. The mortal races can only speculate as none living were there."
Centuries after the creation of the Mortal Realm and the Mortal Races, the Gods would make their home on the mountainous continent of Upursal. From upon these heights they would watch over the world and all their creations. The Gods of Light would build a dwelling atop Konos as its height towered over everything in the world. The Gods of Death would construct their home above the gateway to the afterlife at Mrlos. Further to the South, the Gods of Darkness would build their keep in the depths of the White Stone Mountains, here is where they would begin their plot to overthrow the other gods.

The Betrayal

The betrayal would begin when Reknis tasked his son Valaros to kill or destroy Ammsa's creations. As this began he went to Deywos and told him that his son had turned mad and was killing everything. With his guard lowered he took the chance to kill him. Unknown to him, Deywos son Mrhsus heard of their plot. Deep in the pits of the world when Reknis believed he lured his brother in, Deywos and his sons attacked him. Defeated by his brother and his children they imprisoned him deep within the earth as Deywos could not kill his own brother. At this time Esnis, had gone to Mrlos to murder Bhratis as he was often distracted with the ferrying of souls to the afterlife. When she arrived she was confronted by Bhratis, Ammsa & Mari. They fought and almost destroyed the gateway to the afterlife. In the chaos of battle, Esnis was able to escape and fled to Pawros. When she arrived she learn from Keiros who had fled from her father that he had been attack and that Valaros had been killed.

The Years of Hellfire

Following the imprisonment of Reknis and the death of her son, Esnis returned to Pawros and remained in the depths of the mountain for decades. The Gods in their weakened state believed that the war had ended. What followed would become known as the Years of Hellfire. After decades of hiding Esnis emerged from the mountain and called upon the other Gods. When they gathered she took her daughter in hand and slit her throat. As her daughters blood poured out, she knelt before her and spoke to her. Keiros would rise as her eyes began to burn with fire. Her blood would be replaced with Hellfire on levels that had never been seen before. The other gods would flee as Keiros scorched the continent with fire. After turning Upursal into a wasteland she would turn her sights on Nog Hreund, it was during this time she would fill the land with the blood of the mortal races. Over time her powers would become weakened, until she was cornered by Ammsa who was no longer able to contain her anger. Ammsa easily overpowered Keiros and dragged her through the burning forests and brought her to Mount Tambes. She then called upon the Magma Elementals from beneath the Pool of Ashes and ordered them to imprison Keiros beneath Mount Tambes for all eternity.

Imprisonment

With Reknis and his family defeated, the Gods looked to imprisoned them as they did not have the power nor heart to kill them all. Reknis was taken far to the east and imprisoned beneath the earth where the grasslands meet the dunes at the Pits. Esnis was dragged away from her remaining child and imprisoned deep beneath the Gloomy Sea where she is still said to cry out for her children. Keiros was taken to Mount Tambes where she was imprisoned beneath the fires of the great volcano. Believed dead and unknown to the rest of the Gods, Mrhsus imprisoned Valaros beneath the Eperom Ocean where he asked his sister to raise mountains from the depths of the sea to trap their cousin there for all eternity.

Fall of the Old Gods

Following the imprisonment of Reknis and his family; the Gods would learn of Reknis's final gift to the world. From beneath Pawros, beings of untold darkness and brutality would emerge and exact their revenge upon the world. Weakened by their battle with Reknis, the Gods were unable to stop the spread of these beings. The world would fall into chaos as the mortal races were left to fend for themselves.

Battlefield of the Ravaging

The Ravaging brought untold destruction to entire continents. The continent of Upursal was once an alpine paradise that was turned into a wasteland during the clah between Reknis and Deywos. The continent of Antaustret became a battleground between Mrhsus and Valaros before it spilled over into the Eperom Ocean.
