“Mhu'khul is a strange place to many. It is both filled and void of life. The grasslands stretch for as far as the eye can see. Where life should thrive there is nothing, where life should perish, it flourishes.”
Mhu'khul is commonly known as the Land of Open Grass. It largely remains unexplored for several reasons. In the north lies the Ra'var, a nation born from the descendants of the Ra'var. To the south lies the vast grasslands that many have gone to explore, Few have returned.
Geography
Northern Grasslands
The Northern Grasslands of Mhu'khul are filled with all manners of life and people. To the north east lies the nation of Ragaga. They have settled and built their home around a great river that reaches out in all directions. Known as the Hand of Tez, the river has allowed the Ra'var to thrive in an otherwise barren land. To the north west lies two mountain ranges, Red Ridge and the Red Stone Mountains. Within these mountains the Sir'kahn Federation has built great fortresses to protect themselves from any who would steal their great treasures. The Sir'kahn are the only known nation that trades with the Ra'var. This has allowed them to be able to send expeditions to the Southern Grasslands without being attacked.
Southern Grasslands
South of the great forests of Tra'dal lies the Southern Grasslands, this region is feared by many Loh'kan as the land can grow no trees. This has caused much discussion among the Loh'kan as it is believed that Am'sa blessed all lands with the ability to grow great trees, their absence makes them question if it is the lands that refuse to grow trees or if something else forbids them to grow. Many Proto scholars believe it is the Ra'var who have deforested the lands as they have been preparing for war since Vin'mahsa. Others believe it is the Gh'asi, or Grass Men. A Proto tribe that went missing many years ago and have turned to savagery. Many expeditions have been launched over the years and none have returned.
The Morning Isles
The Morning Isles are a string of islands off the southern coast of Mhu'khul. The island's fertile soil and unique weather allows it to grow a multitude of spices that are popular throughout the world. Originally settled by the Samka, the islands were eventually abandoned as the presence of the mainland became unbearable for the Loh'kan tribe. The islands remained empty until the Hollan eventually settled the islands and began to cultivate the wild spices. These spices would eventually help the Hollan establish the Visam Trading Company.
Trade Goods
With the skills learned from the Aru, the Hollan were able to cultivate the wild spices of the island and produce stronger plants with larger yields. These spices would soon be traded throughout the world. These spices would allow people to flavor and preserve cooked food, create medicines and drinks unknown to much of the world. While cultivating these goods, the Hollan would discover a species of spiders that lived among the plants that were able to produce a web stronger than previously known. This discovery would lead to the creation of silk.
I love how the presence of grasslands -- a place without trees -- causes much spiritual and philosophical questioning! Thanks for sharing!
