King of the Seas

The Mari Reidho have long been a divided group of tribes that sailed away from the grasslands of Hhwecalan in search of new lands and spoils. Their lack of unity created internal strife that kept them from total domination of the northern seas. It wasn't until Captain Kaimana of the Black Hills challenged the chieftains of the islands for overall control of power. As the ships of the island chieftains gathered, Captain Kaimana unleashed the fury of not only his fleet but of the serpents that dwell below the waters onto the opposing fleet. When the tides settled, dozens of ships half floated on the waters. The remaining chieftains kneeled before the Captain and swore their loyalty to not only him but the tribes allegiance towards any who would hold the title of King of the Seas.

The King of the Seas is the greatest warrior and captain of the Mari Reidho.

Appointment

There are only one way to rise to the rank of King of the Seas. That is to bring the ship or the head of the previous King to the Chieftains of the islands. While many believe this would lead to much infighting between the crews of the King, the Mari Reidho are extremely loyal and view their crewmates as family. Island Cheiftans oppose and have even banished captains who would turn against another from their island.

There is much disagreement when it comes to the King of the Seas standing when it comes to the other kingdoms. The human kingdoms do not acknowledge the title and view the Mari Reidho as pirates. Within Elvin kingdoms the title has mixed views, The Teuta acknowedge the title where the Swros Nemos do not. Within The Norsskia Empire, they acknowledge the title and are the only major nation that openly trades with them.
