Fort Armstrong

In the year 2030, The United States military executed Operation Armstrong - a project to develop the first military base on the surface of the moon. It took 10 years of development, but once construction was completed, Fort Armstrong became the most dangerous asset of the U.S. However, war, war never changes. The tensions between China and the U.S. grew more until it erupted in The Great War of 2077. In the couple years after The Great War, the remnants of the U.S. government attempted to contact Fort Armstrong. A futile endeavor and connection was never restored.   Now, the wastelanders of Chicago look upon the moon and remember the day when the a shuttle launched from the moon's surface - causing the events of the first Lunar Harvest. No one knows why a shuttle launched from the moon. However, stories and myths have been shared. There are some that believe that the Fort Armstrong is still fully operational; the remnants of an old world clinging to life. Others believe that Fort Armstrong acted as a safe zone from the world that was heading towards nuclear Armageddon. There are some that believe that whatever life was left on Fort Armstrong died on the night of the first Lunar Harvest. No one can say for sure. There are those that hold out for hope that the key to rebuilding the world lies on the surface of the moon - in Fort Armstrong.

Natural Resources

Fort Armstrong was established as a military base. Although the clear tactical advantages of an interstellar military base is clear, a lunar military base also had other benefits. Primarily, Fort Armstrong studied and drilled for natural resources that could be found buried beneath the moon's surface. Deposits of rare minerals and radiated meteors gave hope of increasing resource reserves on Earth.  The most common mineral that was found the moon was the rare mineral of Ultracite.
