Under the Forest Temple part 2

General Summary

The party continues

After finishing the fight with the blightlings and other demons spurred on by the pouring of blessed water over the murk in the temple, the party continues on deeper into the depths, finding more murk creeping up from down below. Aided by Lyra's quick thinking with her cold spells slowing down the tentacle traps, they made their way into a large chamber and continued exploring. In one room, they found a pool of water starting to be corrupted by the muck, and down the nearest hallway a faint red energy emanated from the lower levels.

The hidden door

While making their way towards the lower levels, Ellessa felt a slight breeze against her face walking by a specific wall, and upon further investigation found that the wall concealed a secret door. Behind the door was a small room with a magic device built atop one of the temple's sigils, green and glowing, pulsing with a sickly arcane energy. Joybell took the opportunity to examine the device and determined that it was a battery of some sort. With a little more work, she was able to turn it off, though doing so seemed to anger something from down below.

The party moves down

Heading down into the lower levels of the temple, the party descended into a much more abandoned and unkept part of the temple. Here, the muck was even thicker on the walls, and looking ahead of them, the party could see a pulsing extension of muck protruding from the wall. Little by little they made their way into the ruins, picking their way carefully around the arteries of muck and blood that had grown through the walls and into the floor and ceiling. After quickly dispatching a surprise attack from Blightlings, they finally found the chamber above their goal. Opening the door, however, they were ambushed by a Blight Demon and injured, though a good deal of teamwork won the day. It wasn't all good, though, for a tentacle arose from beneath the chamber and dragged Verniva down, with Joybell following shortly thereafter while she tried to lean over the ledge to shoot whatever was down below. After an attack or two hitting a pulsing heart down below, the floor collapsed under the party and they fell into the inner lair of whatever it was that was corrupting the Weyr.

The Heart of the Blight

The party found themselves on the squishy and mucky floor of the chamber below, facing a Blood Giant and two Blood elementals, the avatars of the Heart of the Blight. A gallant battle ensued with Lyra encircling the demons with magic fire, and Calcine managing to stun the Blood Giant enough to spare the party the worst of what might have befallen them. It was Joybell who landed the fatal blow to the Blood Giant, though, and with its destruction, the Blood Elementals faded back into the muck and the heart screamed and died. As it began receding and rotting, the figure of an elvish woman was revealed beneath.

Verenioth, the Dragon of Light

The elven figure introduced herself as Verenioth, and seemed confused as to when she was, for she had been overwhelmed more than a century ago, stuck beneath the muck and the heart for so many years. She solicited Sa'rai's help in casting a teleportation circle that took them to Caroth's Haven, telling them all that she would see them again soon, perhaps at Morianath's oasis.   And that is where the adventure left off. Next week is a go, even though it is Mother's Day, but Thawaka may be absent.
