Leah Rourke Character in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

Leah Rourke

One of the original members of the Brotherhood of Steel that were stranded in the Great Dust Bowl over three decades ago, Leah was originally Paladin Haverson's co-pilot. She has held many roles in the interim and is considered to be second only to the Paladin himself. Serving as an advisor and heading much of the logistical work needed to run the organization, Leah is treated more like a partner than a subordinate.

She has never trusted the First Citizens Council and is not afraid to let them know it. When an altercation between her soldiers and Crawler citizens resulted in an arrest, she stormed the security office with a compliment of armed guards wearing power armor to see them released to her so that they could face Brotherhood justice rather than this foreign government. After this incident she forbade any further consumption of alcohol outside the Thunderbird company area and made a formal warning about chem use. Not able to spare a single body, Leah put the offenders on double duties and temporary demoted them all the way back to Initiates.

With so much time passing since she has been able to see her home, Leah has become even more cynical with age. Still a warrior, she longs for a chance to test her skills against the storm and find a route back west. Without the resources to spare for scouting missions that far out, she has found herself resigned to training a new generation of pilots to live the Brotherhood ideals when the original members all eventually die. Her pupils report that she is mercilessly strict and a little preachy, however not one would trust any other instructor to teach them how to fly an aircraft in the harsh regional climate of the Great Dust Bowl.
