Hostel Crossing Settlement in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

Hostel Crossing

Starting as a popular place to rest, innovative traders found a way to turn it into a permanent encampment. Catering to the ghoul syndicates and warlords, they offer a rotating stock sourced from all three. Perhaps the most diverse wares in the Great Dust Bowl, many notable factions are forced to send envoys to do business on their behalf. Shot on sight in most territories, humans are tolerated here so long as they come to trade and never stay after it gets dark.

From curios to pre-war tech, anything dug from the radioactive sands by ghoul hands ends up here at some point. Many irreplaceable parts for the Crawler were found in a dusty stall next to vacuum tubes and sensor modules. Rarely is anything a bargain in terms of price, and without any real standard of currency, buyers can expect a tidy markup on just about everything they pick up.

Just under the surface lies the real nerve center of the operation. By digging out an old metro, they have been able to fortify their position without any need for major construction. Train cars have been refurbished to serve as hotels in the event passing syndicate members want a night in comfort. Seedier markets, gambling, and prostitution rings are commonplace in this area, with everything strictly off limits to humans. Non-syndicate ghouls that wish to enjoy the vices here should expect to overpay and be on their best behavior.

Main Sources of Sustenance

Crossroads Casserole: Although the exact recipe is closely guarded, (mostly because it is constantly changing based on supplies), the chefs of Hostel Crossing have a unique dish they sell to the general public. Made in bulk, many ingredients are added to a large homemade slow cooker so that the process can be monitored over several days. Pre-war food and spices from the Rad Farm are added to meats and greens from Los Verdugos to create the base. Loaf slices are dusted with an assortment of flavors chosen by the customer before being served conveniently in recycled tins for those heading back out on the road.

Bottled Drinks: Having deals with the Reservoir, Nuka City, and RJ's Sarsaparilla Plant, a good variety of sealed liquids can be picked up at this hub. Not marketed with humans in mind however, there is little in the way of quality control when it comes to radiation.

Type
Trade post

    Accepted forms of Currency

  • Greenbacks actually have the highest value, even though they are not considered the medium for tender here. They exchange for fifteen caps each and can be used to purchase some of the most illicit experience the Crossing has to offer.

  • Caps make up the bulk of trades. They can be used to get food, repairs, or general supplies. Only ghouls are allowed to purchase rooms to stay overnight.

  • Pre-war Money can be traded here as well although it is nearly worthless. At one cap per bill, it is much better to take a trip to the Rad Farm or hold onto them for Nuka City.
