Grace Corbin Character in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

Grace Corbin

Hailing from a long line of First Citizens, Grace can not only trace her ancestry back to the founding members of the Vault Crawler, but all the way back to pre-war France. Her family have always been craftsmen, dabbling in everything from gunsmithing to piano making before they immigrated to America during the age of the steam engine and found their niche in engineering. Her family even claims to have worked on the USS Monitor during the Civil War, the details of which being stored in their preserved journals that have been locked away in the Crawler archives for safe keeping.

Grace herself aspired even at a young age at the family business, which these days consists of keeping the aging mobile platform from falling apart. This work is dangerous however, and not just from daily malfunctions and structural failures. Both her parents died in their forties from lung related illnesses that were caused by their exposure to the inner working of the Crawler. Grace takes extra precautions to avoid this fate, however even with her vigilance she has seen the same signs her parents did at her age and is desperate to find a cure before it is too late.

By all accounts the most down-to-earth member of the Council, she is a lone wolf when it comes to their politics. This has left her in the dark about much of their inner workings, though she doesn't mind in the least. Focusing on her work and funding private research into her condition, Grace has little time for stroking the egos of her peers. Although they give her a wide berth, her role is too vital for them to ignore her altogether, so they are usually crafty about their methods of exclusion.
