Session 33: Late Afternoon Discussions, Evening Myotlings, and Spiritual Travelers!

General Summary

Late Afternoon Discussions
Session began with some introductions to the sixth Camp Director, Nori.   Nori is a tall seafoam green sea elf with dark blue green hair which seems to flop around like seaweed. They are almost consumed by oversized orange robes with tattoos that appear to be symbols of Eadro. They're hunched over, often hiding behind books or their bird. Throughout the session Nori seemed to demonstrate an inquisitive demeanor, often interviewing the other directors and recording everything in a small notebook.   Koggins was the first to introduce himself to this "new" person, though others noted that they had met before during orientation for this job. He introduced himself as a trash king, and Nori seemed curious about how many generations had held this throne. Koggins explained that he's the first of his name and that trash (and by extension his kingdom) is everywhere, though his home is in Esther. Apparently his subjects are the "worms, bugs and the pesky plastics that he just can't get rid of". Koggins and Nori bonded over bugs and how tasty they are, especially Koggins's favorite Worm Spaghetti.   Lenny seemed hungry, hissing and voicing their hunger which led to Nori's concern over whether or not this massive alligator will eat anyone if they aren't fed soon. Lenny continued following Nori around the camp waiting to be freed so that they can introduce themselves. He also verified with Koggins and others that they are friends, not food.   Meanwhile Lark, who was hoping to stay unnoticed while tending to the camp, was spotted by Koggins who immediately began spouting off nonsense about magic and how Sparkles is the most powerful magic. Nori solved whatever riddle this must have been by complimenting Koggins which caused him to puff out his chest proudly before departing.   Next to introduce himself to Nori was Garçon, though he did admit that they had met once before during orientation. He commented on how isolating it is in this strange new land and the two of them engaged in small talk while Lenny continued to try to get their attention. Garçon finally freed Lenny, and everyone was finally acquainted...everyone except that mysterious Elmgove, that is.
Nori began to demonstrate a bit more of their inquisitive nature and asked the rest of the Directors why they signed up for this mission, as if hinting that each of them might have their own personal goals in mind. Lenny and Garçon both claimed that "Camp counselors" was a more than complete answer, but Garçon did begin to divulge some more personal information.   Apparently he serves a curious patron of the Arcane Arts who wishes to know more about this realm, and Garçon is a good eye to see through. Allegedly, this mysterious patron brought Garçon to life, gave him physical form and greater sentience. He was once a tree, long ago, but the owner of the forest became fascinated with him and decided to carve him into a humanoid body. He became ambulatory and more capable of speaking, thinking and otherwise conveying sentience. Much discussion was had over what exactly Garçon is. He seemed to disagree with the term "warforged" due to his original purpose, and Nori suggested that he is actually an elemental.   Some concern was brought up over Nori's notes, and they explained that they are just personal logs of people they meet, testimonies, stories and the like. Garçon began to show some interest in why Nori was interested in people or why Nori was here in the Spirit World. They refused to answer beyond the simple explanation that they are curious and connected to nature through druidic practices. They did divulge that they are investigating "crimes against nature", but going beyond that would be "classified" information.
A good portion of the afternoon was spent trying desperately to distract Lark from his work. This included Koggins offering worms, Lenny trying desperately to make eye contact as part of their greeting, and even Nori showing some intrigue in his background.   Lark did explain that he misses his farm (which is above water apparently, idk that's kinda weird), and went over the usual tasks involved their for Nori. Lark had some issues with how the world was changing, and having to be in the Spirit World in general. Didn't like how people were studying him, and thinks that everything went wrong after his eye got all weird. Lark misses when everything was normal and made sense, which led to Lenny distracting Nori long enough to let Lark escape the conversation.   According to Lenny, things have been going faster than normal lately. People who study for a long time can sometimes become enlightened, but regular folks are doing the years worth of work overnight. Forests are also regrowing overnight and evolution might be speeding up as well which is, by Lenny's claim, "bad for everyone". Nori was curious as to how all this is bad, and Lenny just said that he's been "watching for a long time, knows when things are different than they're supposed to be, doesn't know if wrong, just concerned".   Discussions shifted towards Koggins and Garçon reviewing the potential for Garçon to keep a worm on his body, perhaps even as a mustache. Koggins referred to the worm as trash, to which Garçon took some offense stating that worms aren't necessarily trash...though apparently growing up in the city gave Koggins some insight into how humans view nature as beneath them. Nori was curious about what a human is, hoping to confirm that they are the weird hairless ones with circular ears which gave some insight into Nori's lack of interaction with them. Apparently they "are a lot like Koggins" though...hmm.
Focus shifted once more to Koggins, this time enticing Lenny with a fist full of worms in exchange for some work. Apparently he wants to build a trash pile as a sort of welcome to future tourists. He requested bones be brought from the forest along with any other detritus that can be found to help build up this trash pile. As Lenny departed, Koggins looked to Lark with the delightful phrase   "Alright, Marky Lark, now that the muscle's gone, we, the greatest minds that's existed in all the planes can talk."   Koggins has a plan to make this the greatest camp ever and hopes to enlist Lark to help with his plan, then titled "Kamp Koggins". Lark was thankful for the compliment, and insisted that the work he has done so far is just what was asked of them all, that anyone could do it. This seemed to offend Koggins somehow and he became moderately threatening, stating that "You better not be implying Koggins can't do the work, I'll fuck you up."   After some discussion, Koggins finally revealed his great plan. Apparently it is a three step approach to making Kamp Koggins the best camp ever. The first step is to make a sign that says "Kamp Koggins", the second step is to yell "Surprise, welcome to Kamp Koggins!" When the tourists show up, and the third step is to give a guided tour of all the dirt piles. There were some objections to the plan.
The last task before bed was the beginning of the group's effort to repair the Ancient Tower Ruins next to the gate. This tower had somehow been destroyed at some point and its pieces were scattered around camp. Putting the sketches of the rock together like a puzzle led to the idea that it is a tower, and putting it back together seemed like a good idea.   Combined efforts of Lenny, Lark and Garçon began putting this tower together. Lenny used some moss to connect and secure the stones, Garçon used his druid magic to grow the plants in the area to help support the tower, and Lark used his knowledge of the stones to help orient everything correctly.   It came up to about 15-20 feet before it became too late to continue and magical energies of most of the group were depleted. It was starting to take on a general tower shape, complete with a small entrance and some steps even. More work will need to be done in the future to complete it.
Evening Myotlings
Everyone began to tuck into bed. Some of you went into tents while Lenny instead found a nice puddle to sink in to. Garçon stayed up first to keep watch and was eventually replaced by Nori after a few hours. Some guards were also positioned around the camp.   At some point during the night, as Garçon was heading to bed and Nori was waking up, Garçon saw a tourist exiting their tent. He was an elderly man and he seemed to be bragging about his woodcarving tools and his goals in life. His carpentry passion was being spoken of excitedly to what appeared to just be empty space as he left camp. Garçon decided to follow, and, as he did so, he also heard another shout from the other side of camp. A guard was demanding everyone's attention as something strange was happening.   Lenny and Koggins were first to respond to the guard's shouting, though Nori and Lark were both awakened as well. While they were heading toward that guard, they were instead called to another area of camp where yet another guard was shouting for help.   Lenny and Koggins saw that another tourist was wandering away from camp. This one was another human man, though he was much younger in his 20s or 30s and dressed in opulence. His nightwear was very luxurious, especially for a camping trip, and he was talking excitedly about sewing to another empty space.   Nori and Lark saw, on their side of camp, yet another tourist. This one was a young halfling girl with an oven mitt and a whisk. She was eagerly talking about baking and all the baked goods she wants to make with her dad, and, similar to the other tourists, she was talking to just the empty air.
Lenny was the first to act with hopes of stopping the young sewer. He struck out with minimal force hoping to ensnare the man to the ground. They were successful, and his progress out of camp had ceased, however, he seemed to still be completely enthralled by the nearby emptiness. Garçon decided to summon a polar bear to block the progress of the elderly man he was faced with protecting. Lark tried to get the attention of the halfling girl that was wandering out of town by tapping on her shoulder while Nori used their control over water to splash some in her face.   The old man that Garçon attempted to stop with a bear did stop, however, he didn't seem to recognize the danger in front of him. Rather he was almost treating it like a wall or any other mundane obstacle. He kept chatting about carpentry while looking at the nothingness next to him, and Garçon eventually had his bear tackle the old man to the ground. He was predictably confused, but continued describing proper canoe building.   The young man that Lenny had successfully captured was still talking about sewing, and Koggins used this opportunity to challenge him to a sewing contest as he claimed that he's the best sewer in all the land. The young man seemed to hear Koggins, but didn't see him and instead looked back to the emptiness he was previously talking to to ask if it had heard whatever was talking. Lenny utilized their ability to see good and evil, but there didn't seem to be anything celestial, fiendish or even undead nearby.   The halfling girl was briefly stunned by Nori's water, but then continued walking into the woods enthralled. Nori had their bird land on the girl's shoulder, and Lark decided to just pick her up and walk back into camp. The young halfling was still talking about baking, and Nori was even able to copy a delightful recipe for macarons.
As the tourists were all subdued, three voices cried out simultaneously to each different area of camp. "Hey! What're you doing?! Those are ours!"   Lenny was first to draw, and immediately snapped his mouth shut around the source of the noise.   Elsewhere around the camp, glitter and hazy air gave way to an almost mirage-like effect that eventually revealed a more solid shape. Each looked to be different small size humanoid creatures with butterfly wings, antennae and solid colored eyes. Garçon was dealing with what appeared to be a fairy that had yellow-green butterfly wings with very faint pink tiger stripes (Susi). Nori and Lark were dealin with a fairy that had clear, glass-like wings with gold veins running through them (Harmoni). And, right next to Lenny's mouth, Koggins and Lenny were dealing with a fairy that had powder blue wings with three pink polka dots of different sizes at each corner (Inet).   These creatures, known to the Spiritual Travelers as Myotlings, were referring to the tourists as property. They were all quite confused as to why you would want to protect them as they're just tools. Lenny claimed that the tourist isn't theirs to take though and continued arguing with the unusual being.   Nori had questions, asking where they were taking the tourists. Though the myotling, Harmoni, seemed uninterested in answering questions, not wanting to give away the location of their base. Apparently the tourists belong to them because they are in the forest and the forest belongs to them. Nori wanted some legal documentation confirming this, and Harmoni easily produced a small document with an impossible to understand language, though Harmoni explained that it proves Ilven owns the forest and is Queen.   Nori also wanted to know the location of someone that this fairy might know of. They waited for Lark to leave so that they were alone with her, and began asking further questions. Harmoni seemed to know of the person that was described, and informed Nori that "It was leaving our camp, didn't see where they all went because one of its companions somehow put me to sleep." The person Nori is looking for was willingly brought into the camp that this fairy was in. She refused to tell Nori where her camp is, claiming that Nori will use it to hurt them like all outsiders and that they shouldn't even be in the forest. Nori retaliated by launching magical ice made of knives at the fairy. Though the attack missed, the ability still exploded and wounded the wings of this bug-fairy type before she again went invisible as she fell to the ground.
Meanwhile, Koggins started blastin. He successfully hid from the fairy and shot them with ease. They became wounded, the shot striking true in her arm, and she fell into Lenny's mouth, trapped.   Garçon, on the other side of camp, was still arguing with the myotling, Susi, that was taking the old man. She was also confused as to why Garçon would defend them since he's some sort of tree spirit. However, Garçon disagreed with this and firmly informed the fairy that he stands up for all living creatures. She claimed that the old man wanted to go with her, and that he was leaving camp on his own accord. She dropped her spell on the old man and suggested Garçon ask him what he wants to do.   The old man was confused, introduced himself as Gerald Amstermarsh, and ran into camp at Garçon's instructions. Garçon then bonked the poor myotling again to discourage any further debauchery...though she immediately went invisible and possibly left the camp.
Everyone convened in the middle of camp. Lenny still had the last Myotling, Inet, in his mouth and she seemed incapable of escape. The remaining tourist (the sewer) wandered back into camp, introduced himself as a "very important person, Luke Haspance as I'm sure you know", though the group showed little interest in him and he grew bored before leaving for his tent. Lenny, feeling like you should go ask your benefactor about this fairy, drew a picture of Quince using mud on Luke Haspance's tent. Nori successfully translated this while Koggins snuck into Luke Haspance's tent to loom over him. He spent his time reminding Luke Haspance that Koggins is more important than him.   Lenny, feeling as though doors are for normies, decided to claw open the side of Quince's tent. Meanwhile, Nori decided to just walk in and wake him up. Quince was twicely confused of the whole situation and demanded answers from his employees. Lenny revealed the fairy, though Quince was confused as all the reports he had heard suggested they were good...until he realized it is actually a Myotling and may very well be as evil as his employees were suggesting. Apparently they might have been trying to abduct people. We're still not sure on that though.   Koggins eventually arrived on the scene as Inet was flying around the tent, invisible and without a care since leaving Lenny's mouth. Koggins took offense to this and decided to shoot the creature. He first rubbed some mud on his eyes and unleashed a bolt while pretending he had the ability to see invisible beings. He miraculously struck Inet and she yelped in pain as an unusually colored blood escaped into the air. You all saw the bolt fall to the ground, clearly stuck in something, but Inet was still invisible.   Lenny felt on the ground for the body, though searching around the bolt they were able to find a small hard object, kinda round in shape with a point on one side and a cleft on the other. Koggins decided to further help by using ancient goblin magic to dispel the invisibility. This led to the object being covered in mud and showing more of its details. It almost looked like a peach mixed with a rose hip... it was clearly some sort of seed, one that might fall from a flower at the end of its season.   Koggins decided to hand the seed over to Garçon with hopes that he could detect the magic within this object. There was some potent and lingering conjuration and transmutation. Garçon decided to plant the seed and see what happens. Quince had some objections to planting it inside his tent, but Garçon did it anyways.
Spiritual Travelers
Gears were shifted, breath was recaptured inside lungs and we calmed down a bit to focus once more on the Spiritual Travelers.   The little bit of downtime we focused on was the very end of the 11 days, so these events took place on Nurend 30, 308.   Hoping to find Tympi and claim your reward for bringing her home, you all went to her house. The familiar and massive tree towards the back of the village still had her house, though several luna moths were floating about. Some were "keeping guard" while others were inside watching over Tympi.   Outside of her home was Clavi, a luna moth with mid-light forest green wings, the “tails” of her wings trailed down to her feet and started mid green before blending into a much darker green at the end. Her Fur and Antennae were a yellow-green similar to peridot. Her eyes were white. Her outfit was a flowing gown, cinched at the waist with a white cord made of silk, and is made up of bright yellowish-green citrus tree leaves.   She was more relaxed than the others, though this might have been covering up a great deal of worry. She kinda perked up when Frode entered her line of sight. She looked towards him and just waved "Sup, Harris? You look weird. Haven’t seen you in like…centuries. Where’ve you been?”   Frode was understandably confused at first, though quickly caught on and explained that he is not Harris, but rather Frode. He laughed off the misunderstanding, and Clavi thanked the lot of you for saving Tympi. Frode laughed some more and lightheartedly explained that it took a lot as he was stabbed several times. He commented on how useful clerics like Namina are, and Kaswink affirmed this but added on that "they can't heal emotional scars though".   Clavi was concerned, "Emotional scars?" and suggested that he meditate to perhaps alleviate that. Frode seemed to think that he is being punished though, and Clavi tried to calm him down a little bit.   "I don't think you're being punished, Harris. I think maybe you're being rewarded with suffering and a purpose to help you umm save more people. Is that anything? I mean, you saved Tympi. If you weren't in this horrible place, would you be able to do that?"   Frode seemed unimpressed though appreciative, claiming that he just stood there while everyone else did more.
Inside the home, the lot of you saw Anvi.   A powder-blue and indigo winged luna moth, the “tails” from his wings stretched down below his feet and end with a gradient up into a bright orange-red. His eyes were black while his antennae were a very dark blue and his fur was a bright, almost white, blue. He wore an intricate robe made of silvery-dark blue catalpa leaves and white silk ropes.   He explained that Tympi has been asleep since she got here and could be asleep for months longer.
“She will be fine. I’m so sorry you had to see her like that, she was so close to perishing altogether, thank you so much for bringing her here. She’ll need time to rest, a few months more than likely though… knowing her it could be much sooner, or much later. I know that isn’t of much use to you, but it seems you have time to continue your travels for a few months at least. Feel free to partake of the village, and, should you ever need to return, you have our blessing. Take this Writ of Passage and you will be able to enter this village freely from any Mothlight Tree.”   The Writ of Passage was a leaf from Tympi’s first Mothlight Tree, some symbols and glyphs and stuff were drawn on it and they glowed gently when examined.   “If you’ve ever been to a Mothlight Tree you can easily exit from that spot using the same Writ of Passage you used to enter. And, again, thank you so much for finding her. We will be sure to take care of her while you are out…doing whatever it is you are doing.”   Kaswink tried to convince Anvi to rest as well, but he was stubborn and believed he needed to be here despite several others being more than capable of his "task". Perhaps guilt or just worry over a beloved creator were driving forces. Knowing your creator and the concern that would befall yourself should you meet them in such a state ... it is hard to imagine such things.
Beyond Anvi was Tympi's room. She was resting soundly and floating above a seemingly superfluous bed. Tree branches reached out from the Mothlight Tree of her home and dust filled the air, sparkling and drifting gently around her. She was motionless though breathing. As she rested she appeared to be healing before your eyes.
After inspecting Tympi and paying some silent respects for a moment, you went back outside to see Clavi once again waving. Before you were able to fully depart, she stopped you and presented a sapling in a clay pot. She explained that it is a Mothlight Tree Sapling, and that you have the option to plant it anywhere you wish. Doing so would allow you to use it to travel which makes it a rather valuable item and decision to make.   "I know that Anvi gave you a Writ of Passage, fast travel, pretty cool...um, but I wanted you to have this. This is from all of us here. We tried to think about what you might like, or what you might need, anything that would help you on your journey. Best we could come up with is your very own Mothlight Tree. You can plant it anywhere!"   Kaswink thanked her for the honor and the gift which led to Clavi blushing and running inside as he hid tears from you all.
