Ar'en'el, The Crying Star

Ar'en'el is, as far as it can be assumed, the light that saved Vsevolodrik and created the Spirit World with Him. She is the feminine half of the being known as Ulunor (the Spirit World itself), and has been mentioned in a few different places. The root that Namina needed to make her Abyssal Redemption Talisman was Ar'En'El's Longing.   The Spiritual Travelers first heard Ar'en'el's name in the context of the light within a vision where they visited Ulunor through the perspective of Tympi and Ilven. In this vision, they felt Ulunor's unusual form and were able to hear and understand Ar'en'el's sorrow. Prior to this, She was often just a pronoun in a poem or referred to as "the light" in conjunction with "the dark" and "everything else".   Ar'en'el was, until some innumerable years ago, a ball of light of indeterminate size. At some point She and Vsevolodrik seemed to become the giant sphere that is Ulunor...though how can there be an Ulunor still if half of it is gone? What does that mean for the Spirit World considering there is some connection between the two of them?

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Not much is known about Ar'en'el's personal history beyond that she lost someone she loves, presumably The King, Vsevolodrik, and She's been crying ever since. She revealed to Tympi and Ilven that the person that took Him seemed to have a mask with three horns growing from the forehead. In this same meeting, She also granted Tympi a piece of Her light which is most likely being kept in Tympi's Lantern. This quest has yet to really be mentioned or written about by Tympi at any point.   The Lost Child may be a historic account of how She came to meet Vsevolodrik and bring Him to Her realm. Based on what Aotrom said about Ar'en'el and Vsevolodrik and how this book ends, this seems like slightly more than a coincidence.

Mental Trauma

Ar'en'el seems to have experienced a great deal of trauma as she has been distracted and weeping mostly without control for several thousand years. Her tears are described as something that stain Her rays of light with darkness which is described in the first two stanzas of the poem Namina received from her deity.   Poem Portion
Consumed by guilt, He must not be freed
Lost, dwelling on sins that He cannot forgive
Half cries out again for Her love is lost
This time curled up in Anguish, in Despair, Fatigued
By the Hope that is drowned, Her tears, like ink and oil
Will stain the rays of sunlight.   As She hides, frightened and reckless, while the world around Her ends
No more cycles, no ticking from the clock
No more death, or life, or rot
An end to a bitter tale, no longer tainted by Hope
An end to a ceaseless spiral, and to His darkness
Ever-chased by Her light.
Her crying supposedly reached a L’huine leader known as The Psychic and traveled through time to do so. When the L'huine first arrived, she, as Ulunor, was confused by their claims that she had cried out for them.   Aotrom has commented on Ar'en'el's mental condition as well as Her history. She apparently is able to "communicate" with half of "somebody", but that they aren't very talkative these days. She needed to visit this "half" to get the name of somebody that Agave needed more info on, and she returned to explain that   "There wasn't much to see here, just light, but a child came and began to cast shadows. She loved Him, and She kept Him safe. They built this world together, but something happened to Him and now She is alone. She cries out for Him, She screams His name and weeps. Her tears stain Her rays of light with darkness, and She cries for Vsevolodrik."
