Flying Norull Species in The Galaxy | World Anvil

Flying Norull

Flying Norull are one of the many subspecies of the mysterious Norull species. According to the stories present throughout the galaxy, the Norull were a hive mind species of large insectoids that tormented the galaxy about 100 000 years ago. They are believed to have been the cause for the extinction of the Voor and many other sapient species from that time. It is unknown what happened to the Norull after that.

Anatomy

All Norull had a long body which bended backwards in its front part exposing the front part of their belly. The lower, back, part of the body had six legs and there was pair of hands on the upper part. Additionally, the Flying subspecies had a pair of big wings growing out of the place where the body was bended. According to the scarce information available, the wings looked somewhat similar to dragonfly wings. Some scientists say that the Flying Norull were some sort of a variation on the dragonfly form. However, that theory is only accepted as an analogy not a biological fact. There is no proof of any relation of the Norull to any Earth organism.

Acid Spit

Some information on the Norull Swarm suggests that some of its subspecies, including the Flying Norull were capable of spiting an acidic mucus. The mucus is said to have been able to eat through the thickest and most durable armour ever developed. Any creature that came in contact with it died in agony as the acid ate through its body.

Not truly extinct?

In recent years some finds across the explored space have put the hypothesis that all norull subspecies are extinct into question. Several research teams have found fossils which are dated as younger than 100 000 years. If that were true, it would mean that the galaxy might be facing another crisis in the future.
