Township Alpha

Township Alpha is Nordic Frog Beach's first true settlement. It has the feeling of an old town, with inhabitants whose parents and grandparents were born in the town. It has cobblestone streets, stone buildings, beach resorts, and a cute downtown ideal for strolling. The Township is not the subject of much danger, excitement, or intrigue. It's seen as a bit of an old backwater by residents of New Alexandria. Its own local natives view it as a peaceful, beautiful, pleasant small town.

Government

Township Alpha is a part of The Protectorate. It is governed by a mayor, appointed by the people. The mayor employs a small team of oligarchs each elected from within their own labor union to manage the different aspects of running a town. The dockworkers' union, for instance, elects a manager to make government decisions regarding the docks, and to allocate resources there. There are a total of eight members on the small council, and each is allowed to hire their own staff.

Defences

Township Alpha has a small team of Protectors stationed in the town to resolve disputes and deter thefts. The Protectors are trained in combat, but hardly constitute an army. The Township has no defensive infrastructure.

History

Township Alpha was the first town to be founded on Nordic Frog Beach. Founded shortly after the end of the Second Capitalist War, Township Alpha drew a few thousand immigrants before it became a stopping-off point for explorers and settlers moving to the continental mainland. Since that time, it's grown slowly, as a solidly-built island town. Nothing historically significant has ever really happened to Township Alpha, despite its position as the largest town close to Portal Island.

Architecture

Contrasting to the rest of Nordic Frog Beach, most of Township Alpha's buildings are made of local materials: Clay, stone, rubberferns, and materials brought piecemeal by refugees arriving on Nordic Frog Beach.

Geography

The Township is built on a jagged bay on a large island in Nordic Frog Beach's subtropical equatorial zone. A low mountain -- with chunks missing due to quarrying -- rises in the center of the mountain. The water around the island is glittering and clear.
