Freeders

The Freeders are a loose guild of philosophers, academics, artists, magicians and scientists. They were formed in the 6th century by Ramira the Freethinker and the publication of her magnum opus Guide to Religious Freedoms, by Ramira. Through the four hundred years since the founding of the belief system, Freeder ideology has spread to encompass ideas about ownership, feudalism, the economy, magic, research and science.

Freeder Beliefs

An individual Freeder or their guild may have different ideas, and thus Freeder beliefs are not unified or codified. Generally speaking, Freeders believe:
  1. Religion, superstition and cultural precedent should not be the foundation on which society is built. While some Freeders are atheist, even those that believe in a god also believe that religion has no place in politics or law.
  2. Science, reason, and research should be the building blocks of society. Freeders are academics at their core and do not believe in limiting research because of religious, legal or, in some cases, ethical considerations.
  3. Feudalism is outdated and power should be shared. A large number of Freeders do not agree with inherited power due to the illogical inconsistencies therein, esepcially for Royal Houses that were elevated to that position by other logics such as meritocracy.
  4. All are equal inherently, and only one's actions may elevate or lower them. Meritocratic thought is a huge part of most Freeder guilds' structure.

Structure

The organization is decentralised and community based. There are no formal requirements for becoming a Freeder or starting a local Freeder guild. Instead it is more of a philosophical declaration made by academics or scientists representing the break from religious practices or 'ethical' limits within their research or field of expertise.   Local Freeder groups are often formed within other institutions or organizations, notably within Yersi Magitech, Qorte's poisoner guilds, the Frontiersmen's curators and waystriders, and others.   Freeder ideology has led to the creation of some organizations and even faiths, such as the Oscilators.   Occasionally formal Freeder guilds have been ratified and set up with their own inherent systems, usually to establish a base of research operations through soliciting subjects or commissioning sample collections from adventurers.
