Frontiersmen

The Frontiersmen are an organization of explorers, adventurers and traders that seek to uncover the mysteries of the Frontier.   Their flag is a purple and red shield with four golden spyglasses on it.   Government: Appointed leadership by the ruler of the Kingdom of Yersia and the Kingdom of Red Veil; currently Galais Impasse   Status: Tributary to Kingdom of Red Veil and Kingdom of Yersia   Known Associated Regions: Lordirolly, Reachrock Mountains     Known Associated Provinces: Lordirolly, Lordirolly River   Known Friends: Kingdom of the Silverstrike Fairies, Twisthorn Tribe, Colony of Kehl, Qorte, Colony of Ginais   Known Enemies: Deep Elf Empire, Free City of Chevry

Structure

Inquirer

The Inquirer is the leader of the Frontiersmen. They liaise with and give orders to the Head Curator, Waystrider Captain, Fort Commander and High Steward. They are appointed by a vote within the organization, in theory, though the current Inquirer was chosen by Fianella Accordi and Capano Saranducci at the foundation of the organization.   They wield tie-breaking votes when the department heads cannot reach agreement. The current Inquirer is Galais Impasse, an elementalist with ties to both Red Veil and Yersia.  

Head Curator

The Head Curator is the department leader of the Curators. They oversee the academic research, experimentation and magical advances done on artifacts, mysteries and puzzles presented throughout the Frontier.   The current Head Curator is a short woman known as Parchie.  

Curators

Curators are the scribes, healers, magicians, academics, shamans, Magitechnicians, alchemists and herbalists of the Frontiersmen. They mainly work from Lordirolly, experimenting on magical artifacts, creating theorems, and translating tomes. They are vital for missions where magic is suspected to be involved, which is nearly always, but usually only a single Curator is taken with them. Curators are hard to source and are usually highly protected.   Novice Curators are referred to as pages.  

Waystrider Captain

The Waystrider Captain heads the Waystrider division of the Frontier. These are the explorers, navigators, mapmakers, quartermasters and adventurers. The Captain often oversees the expeditions.   The current Waystrider Captain is Dorian of the Longmarch.  

Waystrider

Explorers, navigators, mapmakers, diplomats, traders, and adventurers. They are the most numerous role within the Frontiersmen and are usually combat ready with strong survival skills. They are not usually found at Lordirolly unless they are between expeditions, resting or injured. Waystriders are the most prestigious of the roles at Lordirolly, with many a spy and adventurer aspiring to be accepted into their ranks.   Greenstriders are novice Waystriders yet to Pass the Trial of the Seven Passes.  

Fort Commander

The Fort Commander leads the Lordirolly levy that is permanently stationed at Lordirolly to defend it from potential raids or attacks.   The current Fort Commander is a bull folk named Stalwart.  

Fort Guard

The guards of Lordirolly function as any other town or castle guard. They oversee the general safety of the Fort and are permanently stationed there in case of a raid or attack. They will very rarely accompany Waystriders and Curators to help them defend strategic camps intended for long term use.  

High Steward

The High Steward manages the imports and exports from Lordirolly, as well as allocating budgets to the four divisions. He operates the docks, storehouses, kitchens and armories.   The current High Steward is a thin-nosed woman named Marem.  

Stewards

Stewards are the traders, scribes, accountants, dock hands, quarter masters, cooks and inventory managers of the Fort. They deal with supply and demand, profit and loss, to ensure maximum return to Red Veil and Yersia, while also keeping the stores in Lordirolly stocked. A single Steward might be sent with an expedition to keep watch over rations.

Public Agenda

The Frontiersmen are dedicated to exploring the Frontier, unearthing its secrets and learning what they can. This often comes in the form of dungeon delving, diplomatic missions and expeditions.

Assets

They are supplied with a generous budget by the Kingdom of Red Veil and the Kingdom of Yersia every year. They only have one main base, Lordirolly, but have several research camps spread throughout the Frontier. They have caches of magical artifacts, often ones whose effects are unknown, ready to catalog and sell downriver to Ginais.

History

Formed in 1058

Just two years ago, the Frontiersmen were formed as per an agreement between Queen Fianella Accordi and King Capano Saranducci. They agreed to equally fund the organization in return for equal share of its artifacts, profits and knowledge. Yersia donated the Fort to the organization, which is technically leased, skewing profits more towards Yersia. The monarchs agreed to send capable adventurers, explorers and academics to the Frontiersmen. There they are to swear oaths only to serve the Frontiersmen and to be neutral in all conflicts in the Old World.
