Personal history

Ardeth was conceived by the late Duke Archal in his later years, making her the youngest sibling. Her mother was a settler from Kehl that Archal had brought back to Argo after he fell in love with her on a trade voyage. When Ardeth was born, Archal intended to renounce his title to his oldest son, Arento, and take up residence with his new wife in Kehl and with his child.   Instead, the baby demonstrated unpredictable and uncontrollable magical powers that blew up part of Fort Argo. Ardeth’s mother begged him to send Ardeth to one of the Magitech schools in Yersia. Instead, horrified, Archal secretly contacted the Aviary to take her away and cure her. Ardeth’s mother, Morag, set out to find her daughter.   Aviary forces took Ardeth for many years before Morag found her. They had strapped an iron mask on her that negated outward expressions of magic and forced her to create enchanted equipment to help their efforts in killing monsters and nonhumans. When Morag found Ardeth, at six years old, the Aviary members ordered Ardeth to kill her mother right then and there in the streets of Nilkea. Ardeth then fully embraced the mantra that magic was evil.   Ardeth rose through the ranks over the next ten years, eventually supplanting the former Grandmaster and taking over his operations. She set about designing several more important artefacts that could help the Aviary rid the world of magic forever, including the Mirror of Blood (Truth-Eye), a Cosmalite mirror capable of revealing innate magical potential. Ardeth pinned her hopes on this as a way of eradicating magic from people with latent abilities or babies.

Downfall & Death

The beginning of the end for Ardeth was when the magician creating the Mirror of Blood near Maco died. She ordered Filari, her second in command, to recruit the local herbwoman named Agretta to help finish the project. In return, they promised the scorned woman a new home and fresh start in Nilkea. Agretta agreed, even kidnapping the Councillor's daughter, to funnel her magical blood into the mirror to continue refining the process.   The Councillor hired Alium Figura and Juyliette to find his daughter. They uncovered the mirror and stole it from Agretta, killing her and many of the Aviary forces in the south. Filari fled in fear, following Agretta's instructions.   Ardeth herself went to Argo, hoping to steal the mirror there. However the Mirror was guarded by the Duke's men and taken directly to his Fort. Unable to access the Fort directly, Ardeth instructed her agents to try to destablize the Duke by assassinating his steward and corrupting members of his council. Though it worked, Ardeth was exposed by having her agent captured, as well as by rogue members lynching a magical woman in Argo and killing a sea giant. Ardeth sent word for her fleet to come south to rescue her. Filari was also captured by the group, having set a trap for him. Ardeth's agents in the city were executed by Amelia Argo.   Losing control of her organization, and penned in the city, Ardeth became more unreasonable, seeking vengeance on Arento for their father sending her away. She ordered his stables burned and his horses killed. Juyliette and Alium eventually tracked her down to her safe-house, where she hid during the lock down. As the Aviary's ships began their assault on Argo, Juyliette and Alium slew Ardeth in her mother's house in the city. Her conspirators fled but many more were captured. Ardeth's death and the massacring of her forces meant that the Aviary was all but destroyed.
