Salamandra
The Salamandra are a bipedal amphibian race native to the planet Serimos IV. They are a relatively older established race in the galaxy, having achieved FTL travel roughly 1200 years before humanity.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Salamadras have a physical layout common to most sentient species in the galaxy, a bipedal posture with a head at the top, a pair of arms and a pair of legs with a tail for balance or propulsion through water.
Genetics and Reproduction
Salamandra reproduce sexually, but with external fertilization. Females will lay eggs in a water filled pool called a crèche where they will be fertilized by her selected mate. Clutch size ranges from between 4 and 8 eggs with 5 being the average. A period of 6 months is required for the young in the eggs to develop and hatch.
Growth Rate & Stages
A Salamandra hatches in the form of a mackerel sized tadpole, referred to as a Pollywog or just Wog for short. It will spend the first 4 months of life in this limbless state before sprouting limbs and crawling onto land, where it with be the equivalent of a human toddler.
Ecology and Habitats
Salamndra prefer hot, wet environments such as tropical rainforest where they don’t need to worry about desiccating due to their incredibly water permeable skin.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Salamandra are primarily carnivorous, with arthropod biomatter making up almost 85% of their diet.
Behaviour
In general, Salamandra are good natured and friendly, with an innate curiosity to know others that lends to a communal and intricate social structure. Most Salamandra will try to fill periods of silence with small talk or will have some sort of audio stimuli playing while completing a task.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Salamandra have a communal style of social interaction with individuals having and maintaining many close relationships both within and without their direct family. Salamandra have been compared to an Old Earth stereotype of “Mid-Westerners” which were considered to have high communal interactions within their communities.
Average Intelligence
Comparable to human baseline.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Like amphibians on Old Earth, Salamandra have excellent low-light vision.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Salamandra maintain a very positive reputation among the galactic community, always being the first species to offer non-military aid during a crisis. It was the Salamandra that came to humankind’s aid immediately after The Scream. As a result, a small number of human colonies are located within Salamandra territory and enjoy their protection.
