The Scream

The Scream is the name given to the era defining cataclysm that shattered Human unity across the galaxy. Very little, if anything, is known as to what caused The Scream other than it originated somewhere in the Veil Nebula.
Theories abound as to the origin of The Scream, from a quirk of nature, to a deliberate attempt to annihilate the human race. The most common theory is that the centralized human government of the time accidentally triggered The Scream through illicit experiments to make more powerful psychics, which were vital and integral to the function of human civilization at the time.

Manifestation

The Scream had no visual effect to the average non-psychic. It is unknown what metaphysical representation The Scream displayed to human psychics, as it either killed them or drove them invariably insane. To those nonhuman psychics outside of human space, descriptions have ranged from "Like setting off a thousand nukes in Metaphysical Space" to "A trillion nails on a trillion chalkboards in your brain".

Localization

While The Scream was projected across the entire galaxy, it was primarily localized within human controlled space. This thankfully spared the existence of many psychically inclined species, such as the Rigelian aka. The Greyss.
