Winifred 996 "Peacekeeper" Rifle

"The rifle that saved the world" The Winifred 996 was the most common rifle used by both Protectorate and Ug'eran forces during the the War of Federation, produced in the neutral city of Rio Seco. Named for the gunsmith and the year the first rifle came off the line, the 996 (pronounced nine-nine-six) is most often chambered to .45 Army or .37 Long Rifle, although its modularity has seen both smaller and larger actions and barrels fitted to the rifle. The lever action is famous for its reliability and easy of operation, a simple mechanism that's easy to field strip and clear misfired cartridges from.   Affectionately called the "Peacekeeper" and the "the rifle that saved the world" by 'Publicans, the 996 was designed as a all-purpose infantry weapon by Billdiah Winifred in his Rio Seco factory. Designed with mass production in mind, the Winifred factory received a Protectorate commission for the rifle in 993 A.S. and had implemented mass production for the rifles by the time the first officially came off the assembly line in 996 A.S.. By that time the War of Federation had erupted and by the end of the year thousands of Winifred's weapons where in armories and caches across the continent. Thanks to the wealth of the Winifred family and its central location, Rio Seco] was able to maintain neutrality during the War of Federation and avoid armed dispute over the city the Munitions Treaty of 999, which allowed gunsmiths to sell their wares to both factions as long as no ammunition was sold.
