The Edge

The Edge, or the Edge Gobble  is composed of the entire area at the far edges of the demi-plane. This is one of the most dangerous areas of the city, but also one of the most free. No group has control of the edge, as it is by nature  constantly shifting and changing. The Edge is where most Scavengers work, as it the place where the demi-plane is most likely to increase in volume, bringing with it the potential spoils.    It appears as a deep grey mist, or transparency rather than a hard or sharp border. Unlike true darkness, shining a light into this deep mist does not clarify the world beyond; indeed most people think there is nothing there. Sometimes objects appear in the more transparent area, but never actually make it into the city, and sometimes the fog will suddenly expand in an event known as an Edge Gulp. The opposite also occurs, though less often where an area of the city will disappear, or be pinched off from the rest of the plane, usually known as a pinch or a vanish. Things or people inside the pinched area are never seen or heard from again.   An Edge Gulp usually brings with it new and strange things to the city. Sometimes this means parts of buildings, mountains, or waterways, and sometimes this means people or animals. It has also been known to produce whole or partial objects, such as a cart, or a single dinner plate (Which was extensively studied for potential magical attributes, and was eventually determined to be a single dinner plate). Sometimes these are permenant additions to the plane, and sometimes they disappear after a few hours. Sometimes things appear to have a connection to the world they came from, such as the wellspring   On extremely rare occasions, and edge gulp will occur elsewhere on the plane, usually with disastrous consequences (See The Boneyards. It has also been theorized that Edge gobble occurs in all directions, including the upper atmosphere and in the depths of the earth, but no one has been able to prove it.
