Radiance Spell in The Flying Flux | World Anvil

Radiance

This broken world bleeds an energy known as 'magic' into its surroundings, and some have attained the ability to see it. Such an ability typically works best where magic is most prominent, such as the Outlands.

Effect

The ability to see or otherwise sense objects that radiate magic.

Side/Secondary Effects

Some creatures of magic prefer to remain hidden, so staring at them in awe might end poorly. However, staring off at nothing is sometimes misconstrued as awareness and has led many daydreamers to a gruesome ending.

Manifestation

If the creature's primary sense is sight, like us, they typically claim that it looks like fire or an intense, visible vibration. Smell-, touch-, and taste-reliant beings will say it's like "downwind air" (sight- and hearing-based creatures are usually unfamiliar with this terminology, but I believe it has something to do with a distinct, yet unappealing biological process). Creatures reliant on hearing or other senses usually find themselves unable to discern it from every-day stimuli.

Source

Usually, the magic inside Fluxers is too faint, but landmarks such as the Outland Teeth generate enough for most to get a clear image.

Discovery

This was discovered by a Fluxer mage in search of uncovering a way to manipulate magic more easily. Naturally, being a genius who understood why this type of energy should emit light, the sudden epiphany blinded him. Other mages and magicians do not bear this risk, because they view it as an extrasensory perception rather than a physical light.

Effect Duration
The duration of these effects are controlled by the magician, and are subject to when he or she thinks it should end.
Range
Depending on the magician's power, it could theoretically reach across the entire Flying Flux.
Applied Restriction
One must understand exactly why this works in order to use it. Either that or simply believe wholeheartedly that it is possible even without a complete understanding, which is slightly less preferable.
