Voids

According to the Sciential, voids are ruptures in the Divine fabric of the universe caused by the machinations of the accursed Erateans. Had they not been defeated and the Mandate of the Blessed instituted, the voids would have continued to spread until the whole of the world was destroyed.

In purely physical terms, the voids are openings from one place of existence to another. This "other" may be the size of a small city or an entire world. In some the aperture, or "gate", opens only temporarily. In others it is a permanent opening, accessible to any who can survive the rigors of the world beyond. But in all cases these alternate worlds follow their own rules, distinct from the understood laws governing existence in the world of the Hegemony .
