Grim Species in The Fantasy Nexus | World Anvil

Grim

A Grim is a large black dog, jackal, dingo, hyena, coyote or wolf, that, when seen even once, guarantees death. They appear to be vaporous, as if made of smoke or black steam. Grim possess the same "blurring" effect of hellhounds whenever they teleport, but there is no distance limit to their teleportation, and they are not aligned with fire. Grim do not originate from Hell - in fact, their origin is unknown entirely, and even devils find them unnerving (even though immune to the Grim's effects.) There is no way to kill or even wound a Grim. They can often be found as companions of Death. Perhaps this is where the phrase Grim Reaper originated...? Grim and hellhounds do not tolerate each other.
