Fall Interregnum

Disaster / Destruction

Second Sharad, Sixth Sun Birth, Veilfall

The Fall Interregnum was an apocalyptic event known by hundreds of names across Geron in various languages, translating to things like 'Second Sharad', 'Sixth Sun Birth' and 'Veilfall'. While the exact cause of the Fall is unknown, witnesses of the event say that Geron's moon Sharad swelled enormously in size for several days, bringing with it a hail of falling stars that broke apart across Geron's lands and seas, ringing Geron as though it were a bell. Volcanoes erupted, tidal waves washed away coasts and ports, rivers surged inland, and the sky filled with smoke.

For a period of several years, the surface of Geron was covered in constant lighting storms of dust through which one could barely see the sun, and a vibrant fuschia dust or rain is reported to have fallen from the sky, poisoning living creatures and causing people to transform into feral monsters.   In the literal and proverbial darkness that followed, peoples such as the Anterosians, Istamarians, Kashdan-Kur, Algarkali and Yu'Shar who had already been utterly devastated by these disasters are said to have fought a long and protracted war against strange creatures known as the Oqo'nas or 'Sightless Sons'. A Chosen known as Keidon is said to have delivered many to salvation through the construction and provision of the Bastions, fortresses who the Stewards of Keidon built or augmented in the centuries leading up to The Fall.   The Anterosian cults of Keidon, once considered quack alarmists, led many people from the ruins into the structures they had excavated and fortified in the Age of Nesting Snakes. The Keidonians brought with them the 12 books of Keidon, copies of 9 of which are known to have have survived into current age. The books detail the reconstruction of society with all manners of minutia and contain predictions about the Fall itself.
