Geography
This planet was knocked by an asteroid a few hundred years ago which changed its orbit to shift closer to Stjorn. The subsequent damage would have wiped out all life on Mond's surface.
History
Because of the hazardous nature of the surface. The dwarves were forced to tunnel into Mond itself. They effectively hollowed out the upper levels of the planet, using the surface as a shield for their civilization.
The mountain dwarves started tunnelling into their mountains, and the hill dwarves into the hills. Some dwarves delved deeper still - and became the Duergar.
