A Catch Up on Current Events
Forgot to write in here for some time. I think I left off right before I got stabbed again. So that lady Dannastra stabbed me with a jagged knife, still got that blade on me as she left it there. My crew thought I was dead, to be fair the pain got to me so I collapsed and my clothes were covered in blood again. I don't think they've ever seen me that way before so it was an understandable freakout. I mean it was nothing new to me, I've got plenty of scars to prove that. Back to the events. A fight happened and I woke up in a sweet's emporium back room. Seeing my wounds I got the supplies and bandaged up. What Belladonna and Vino found out was the thing was in the basement. A flesh tangle as they called it. Belladonna invoked some law and lit it on fire. I'm fuzzy on the exact rule but she always makes sure to follow the contract to a tee and she's studied the stuff a lot so I trust her. We decided to lay low and see what happened next. We found out that the people in the town put out the fire and were repairing the mansion. Mom came to visit, made sure I was okay and we got a hit on Dannestra for screwing with the corpse takers guild. Thinking that if this thing is out there we should get rid of it I went to the church. They are good at taking care of things like this so I thought to report it. Took a while to get there and then there was a lot of talking to people but I eventually met with the lord inquisitor herself. I told her about the thing, she had me lead two other inquisitors, good guys I felt, to the mansion. They never looked at the thing but they thanked me and said they would deal with it. I a little confusing but I got the feeling they knew the graveness of the matter so I didn't think much of it.
When I got back to the crew I found out they did some investigating of their own. There was a long debate but we decided to infiltrate the manor ourselves. Pretending to be a construction crew we made our way towards Antonin, and a fight broke out. Basal, Vino, and Tannhauser went up first and got the drop on him. When Bella, Derek, and I, he wasn't looking too good and there was a lady bleeding on the floor. Now Mama says to never let an innocent get hurt, it's a good way to get caught. I bandaged her up as Derek and Bella finished Antonin off. As they did Vino nabbed the book that gave Antonin the ability to control the Flesh Tangle, but as he told us later he fell out the window and the book was dropped into the Eversink waters. When something gets lost in the water here, you ain't ever finding it again. The rest of us started to wrap up inside. As we were clearing up though Basal started yelling something about damned Grandkids, picked up the lady, and ran off. It was weird. We decided to get out of there before the authorities showed up, and I took a little detour to grab the chest that Antonin was offering to us before.
With that wrapped up, I completed the job for Mom. We sold the chest contents and heard some rumors as we were keeping a lower profile. Antonin was missing, the flesh thingy was disposed of by the church, and patrols were up for the city watch and the church. When that happens Mom's business tends to go on the decline.
Now to the most recent stuff. Vino got his leg healed up after being infected by the flesh thingy. However, to pay for it he had to steal some trinket from a gentleman named Aster Varoc. Using some of my Merchant connections, I talked to Ryan, Mom's old friend who runs the golden thimble. He explained to me that Varoc does import-export, and gets some real quality stuff. He uses mercenaries but when in the acquisition game that's needed when you go off to a different country. While leaving the golden thimble, Basal noticed a tail, him, Tannhauser and I split up and we quickly found out that the tail was on Tannhauser. Basal caught him and gave the kid a good talking to, telling him he should wear socks with his nice shoes. He was apparently working for the church so that meant Tannhauser needed to keep an even lower profile. We got back to the chicken shack and discussed the plan. Belladonna took me, Basal, and Vino to Aster Varoc's shop to find a trinket for mom. We kept asking for a different selection until we saw the thing we were looking for. Confirming he had it we decided to leave. Vino knocked the tray over though. But nothing was broken and Mister Varoc caught our item of interest real quick-like.
Oh, one more thing, apparently Basal and Vino did a stakeout on the place and Vino stole a book. I didn't find this out until recently and after he had Derek use some magic to open it for him. It apparently deals with the under city and has some valuable information. That's all for now, I'll remember to write in it next time.
The special job from Mom
Hello journal, I hope you're doing well. I know you can't talk or nothing but I figured you deserve a greeting since I write in you. Now after me and the crew got back from our n̶a̶t̶i̶c̶a̶l̶ ̶n̶a̶t̶u̶c̶ ̶n̶a̶u̶t̶u̶ sea adventure the group had split up, right. Vino found where the new corpse takers were operating from, and Derek and Tannhäuser apparently perform some magic that got them in trouble with the church, Mama said to never get on the churches bad side, they got connections deeper than the oldest parts of the city. Now Derek and Tannhäuser got me thinking we had to deal with their situation as a top priority so we got them laying low and the crew decided to ease off on anything going on. Bow we kept quiet for two days when little Sally came to the store with a message from Mom. She said to deal with the new corpse takers guild as I was already investigating them it was my responsibility to do so. I made sure Sally got fed proper and decided to use the old noggin to get to work. First Vino, Basal, Bella, and I went down to one of our family stores where I got info about any clients who lived in the building Vino found the other day. As it turns out there was one who quit cold turkey 6 months ago, now not many people can quit sugar like that and we in the family like to keep happy customers to keep our business going, so I grab a sample and a chocolate bar as I was craving some chocolate and we went to contact of Basal's. He found out that the new group has been selling quite a bit of stuff you would find off people. More than an expected amount, prolly means they getting the bodies by unnatural causes if you know what I mean. I'm not sure myself but I was told to say stuff like this in these situations.
With our information in hand, it was time to see the former client Antonio Valari. Me and Basal convinced the door people to let us in. I did some flashing of the old ring as it's a tried and true method that works. And when the servant got testy Basal said he owed us money to get us in, Basal real smart in these situations. In the meantime, Vino and Bella were to investigate around the building. They came up to me to get a taste of sugar for some guy for some info but I need to find out what they did next. Basal and I got in met with Mr. Valari where I did my selling speil, quite well if I do say so myself. Dannastra was there, she's a scary sort, got no honor is what my family says, and I know my family has honor to spare. Now even though I gave a great pitch, the man was clean and said he was a changed man. Now this part was hard, Mama said when I client doesn't budge you should still give them something for their time, so I gave up the chocolate I was excited to eat but it was probably for the best.
Oh, I forgot during that we got him to talk. Now I know the type Mr. Valari is, a man with a hunger, usually, the only hunger I see is for something else but I could tell he wanted to be seen and talk about his plan. Now with that info in hand, I did what I was taught to do, butter him up. Mama said a happy client is always willing to buy more, she also says those with an ego want to stroke it, so I let him stroke it. He began telling us that he was collecting the bodies, Dannestra was not a fan of this it looked like. He brought us up to where his master plan was, now I didn't mention this before the place smelled like the storehouse where Mama brings undesirables except worse. As we got closer to the location the smell got even worse and then he showed us the balcony. Now I'll spare you the details as this a not a topic for the dinner table as Mama would say but for the sake of record, I will say that he had a huge pile of dead bodies, human and animal piled in a room. The real freaky choice to do but that gave us the ammunition needed. We bid a good day where he asked if we wanted to help, I told him I'll talk to Mom as I always work through Mom and we began to leave.
However, at the door, we were met by the 8 servants and Dannestra. I've seen this before, a group thinking it's time to silence the opposition. I flashed my ring again invoking Mama's name which seemed to deescalate the servants but Dannestra. Well, I did say she's got no honor, she leaped forward barring a jagged splintery blade going after me. That's when. Uh sorry, journal, I just saw the time and I need to sleep. Got an early morning and all that, I'll fill you in on the details next time.

Journal Entry One
I forgot the date but was told to write it here
Mama said to keep things written down to note them later. Always to keep an alibi she always said, so I've decided to write down the events of the most recent job we went on. The crew was hired on as security, Mom recommended us to work it. We were on a ship called the shining coin, protecting it for it was carrying some sort of religious valuables. The job was pretty quiet until it wasn't. We were attacked by a bunch of pirates, I headbutted one and then we were saved by the crown prince's armada showing up out of nowhere, every pirate abandoned ship except the lady with the fancy hat who I deducted was the captain by that very fancy hat. Now she was brave to still be on the ship with the armada coming but then I remembered something. Cousin Danny told me about her, Captain Precia Cointongue, she was known for dumping bodies at sea after placing coins under their tongue but rumor had it she was dumping them at the docks which was very suspicious. So I said that and she gave me her pistol, cutlass, and her hat cause I thought it would make me look like a captain myself. The hat didn't fit so I gave it back.
Af5ter the armada disappeared, pretty sure to chase after the pirates we interrogated the captured pirate. Bella told me to stand like I do when getting gifts from the neighbors while Derek did the talking. I focused real hard to not talk and I think I did a good job. I figured out later on that they found out bodies were being sold at the docks for 10 coin apiece. Being bought by that thief the guild don't like, Dannastra. I think that's how you spell her name but I'm not sure.
We traveled back to Eversink and there we turned in the captain for a bounty and a couple of people from the new corpse takers tried to buy bodies from us. Vino disappeared at some point and Taunhauser and Derek took a couple of bodies somewhere. Basal and I left to meet Bella at the chicken shack. I think that's it. When more happens I'll be sure to write it down.
