Aasimar Ethnicity in The Etherium | World Anvil

Aasimar

When the aftershocks of the Sundering subsided leaving the newly reshaped Etherium in near total darkness and silence, the Gods were dead. But not all those who had closely served the deceased deities perished with them. The creator Gods made more than just the races and the Spheres they called home. The first creations of the Gods were lesser mirrors of themselves, sharing in their divine nature and ideals. We call these beings the Celestials. Some handful of these Celestials somehow survived the utter destruction of their godly masters, the Etherium in tatters along with them.

It is unknown what their true motives were but it is commonly held that seeing the Races reduced to pitiful remnants, their civilizations left in rubble and ruin, took pity on them. Knowing that thousands of years were ahead of the survivors before even a fraction of what had been lost could be rebuilt, and that great danger would come in the darkness between, the Celestials blessed some few chosen of the Races with their divine blood. Since then no substantiated reports have been made of the Celestials interacting with the Races, vanishing into obscurity.

This introduction of Celestial blood into the Race's new generations would occasionally result in small miracles called Aasimar. The Aasimar appear to still be of their parent's race(s) but with obvious improvements, They are larger, healthier, stronger with sharper instincts and often intellects. Their pigmentation of skin and hair is brighter or bolder, colors becoming more vibrant and contrasts with greater distinction. They always stand out among their kin as paragons of their species. In addition they posses a small measure of innate divine power, tapping into the Cosmic Divinity as easily as they breathe.

Over the eons since the Etherium Aasimar heros have arisen in times of trial and turmoil, leading the races through the worst of it into brighter times. Aasimar, when they are identified as such, are largely heralded as signs of new hardships to come and the better days that come after. Most people accept and welcome an Aasimar among them for they know when they are needed it is better to have one around than not. Unfortunately not all people think this way giving into superstition and fear, and in some communities an Aasimar may find themselves run out of town, the locals believing that they are the cause of ill omens themselves bringing the hardship with them.

Many Aasimar choose to keep their nature hidden, blending in with their fellows in order to prevent any unfortunate misunderstandings.
