Session 020 - The Orrery of Tragedies
General Summary
Taryn storms outside, pissed off at Break-a-Leg not talking – she tries to drop him over the side, but he manages to land on the balcony – he runs inside and quickly introduces himself to everyone. Bah Reigh introduces himself as the leader; Taryn and Mord exchange bemused looks
Break-a-Leg offers to share some of Endolin's secrets, if we share secrets – Meela shares that she thinks about killing people.
Break-a-Leg tells Mord that Taryn likes him – Taryn denies it strongly. He tells Mord about the lightning rod on the roof
Mord ties him up and slings him over his shoulder; Break-a-Leg says ‘ooh, daddy'. Mord asks the party to fill him in on the plan
Clej hears a noise and investigates; there are 6 cells, 2 occupied by goblins. Kiz asks him to wake Wort; Clej cuts down his hammock. Kiz is starving. Clej asks questions; they've been locked up by Stage Fright and haven't been fed
Clej offers to set them free; if Wort answers, Kiz will go free and vice versa
Wort: There's a belfry in one of the turrets, but Endolin has it boarded up
Kiz: she found a key and hid it under a throne in the prop room, but doesn't know what it opens
Clej tries to break open the cell, but can’t. He finds some keys but they don't work. He goes to get Taryn and Mord; first attempt doesn't work. Meela yanks a door open and brushes against Taryn; Mord opens the other
Break-a-Leg annoys Mord one too many times, and he tries to throw him off the bridge; Break-a-Leg manages to dislocate a limb and hang on to Mord. Meela is cheering him on; Bah Reigh goes after Mord to cheer him on. Bahr Reigh falls to the ground laughing
Pipppa shares a secret with Break-a-Leg about having to wearing her scarf all the time; Break-a-Leg has no more secrets to share though, but he has a birthmark on his butt saying ‘made you look'
Kiz and Wort come and grab Break-a-Leg, and leave
The party goes back upstairs; Mord decides to spear the mask chair to try to destroy it. A darkling runs in, says Endolin will be pissed and runs off. Mord tries to compel a duel but fails; Bahr Reigh tries to grab him but misses and the darkling runs off
The party goes up stairs, Mord and Bah Reigh leading. They meet the darkling and it casts darkness and attacks Mord, who in return casts Hellish Rebuke, attacks, and kills the darkling
Mord sees a featureless stone door. Mord and Bah Reigh are busy debating who should lead; Taryn pushes between them, between the two suits of armour and discovers there is no door; when she touches it Endolin's face appears and tells us all to go away
Mord investigates the suits of armour; there are goblin skeletons in there. One head falls off, and Meela puts it in her bag
Pippa looks around and sees the Orrery. There are three goblins: Dungus, Kak and Spoorx. Then the three hags arrive; Bavlorna and Scabitha are in upstairs viewing rooms,
Scabitha clicks her fingers and Taryn feels something punch her back; she opens the bag and something licks her; Lilygrove appears. Bah Reigh introduces her to Mord and suggests a triad
Lily summons her axe and tries to attack Bavlorna; she shifts planes and disappears. Lily then turns to Scabitha and says ‘you know your sister will betray you, she knows when you will die and hasn't told you'
Scabitha reveals that Meela will die by Lilygrove's betrayal; she asks Taryn how attached to her limbs she is, Taryn says they are technically attached to her
Lily tries to attack the machine; she takes lightning damage, which she claims just makes her stronger, and she flies up and attacks the lightning rod with her war hammer
Meela casts acid bolt at one of the floating parts; Endolin applauds her effort
Mord walks up to Endolin and attacks, starting a battle
Clej blesses half the party, then casts spiritual weapon. Lily curses Endolin, then Eldritch Blasts her. Bah Reigh channels divinity to buff himself up and oil him, dismounts then walks up to Endolin, grapples her then swivels her into the Orrery damage zone, then falls to the ground with her; flirting while they lie down. Endolin tries to use Puppet Lash but Lily uses a Sailor Mars move to counterspell; Endolin then attacks Lily and moves her into the force field; Lily is instantly killed (there is a moment where she makes eye contact with Meela before exploding). Mord spears Endolin and Divine Smites her, then spears and smites her again, then tries to hit her but misses. Scabitha says to her sister ‘looks like you've got this' and plane shifts. Meela, caught up in her grief, casts Chaos Bolt but misses, tries again and misses but wild surges; Mord is cast into the air. Taryn rages and swings her axe twice; Endolin disappears into inky black smoke. Meela casts acid bolt at the Orrery, damaging it some more, completely dropping one part off.
One of the goblins re-appears, says that if all 8 parts are damaged, the machine will be completely broken. He also says that Endolin sometimes dies, and re-appears the next day. The party splits; Mord, Clej and Meela attack the orrery; Pippa, Bah Reigh and Taryn leave to find Glister (Pippa asks Clej to keep a watch on Meela
They check out some rooms, but find nothing. When checking out a tower room, they go out onto a balcony and see a hot air balloon – Charm, Trinket and Bauble, from the Soggy Court market. They reveal Glister is in the prison; Bah Reigh asks them to draw a map, but they reveal it is the door with Endolin's face, that can be opened with Stage Fright's sceptre
Clej, Meela and Mord finish destroying the orrery; they investigate the viewing rooms and see the chairs are facing a mirror. Meela investigates but it's just a mirror. Mord investigates the next level up, and finds a beautiful door. He then goes out to a turret and finds an ornithopter, he kicks it over the edges and it glides down. He then finds another turret, throws bottles of lightning over the edge; they shatter and cause big explosions. On the desk is a toad shaped paperweight, holding down blank paper; the paper turns into paper birds which he fails to grab and they fly off. Mord tries to throw a desk over the edge
Meela and Clej investigate a prop storage room, containing a stone gargoyle, a throne and a baby goblin toy, which has a wind up key in its neck. Meela pockets the toy, finds a key under the throne. Meela casts message to Taryn to say she found a key
Taryn, Bah Reigh and Pippa leave the hot air balloon, and the entire group meet up again. Meela winds up the toy and it starts screaming; Mord throws it over the balcony. Meela tries to use the key, but there's no keyhole. Bah Reigh touches the knob to try to open it; Bigby's magic hand pushes him over the balcony – luckily the orrery is broken!
The party short rests, and Clej casts a spell to open the door. They walk into an odd shaped room, filled with marionettes and hourglasses. As they walk in, the marionettes start screaming ‘intruders' – Mord starts pulling them off the roof and throwing them over the balcony
Meela looks at a chest with clawed feet; they are bigger than hers. She goes over to the other side to the chest with a key
Taryn looks at the wardrobe with a jade eye, and a mirror in an oval frame. She taps on the eye and it opens, she waves and it blinks. She recognises that the mirror is the same as the one in Bavlorna's cottage that we could walk through, that needs a code word
Pippa investigates a basket surrounded by bird toys, some clockwork; the basket belongs to Endolin's cat which had been kidnapped by Bavlorna
Meela opens the chest and finds: 4 gold bed knobs; 8 bottles of elven wine (Pippa holds it for her) and the bag of holding – Gah Reigh's head momentarily falls out of the bag. Meela walks away; Mord goes to sit with her and Pippa keeps an eye on her
Bah Reigh plays a tune on the hourglasses; Pippa removes some (XX worth 25 gold each) and Taryn smashes some
5 darklings appear in the room; Bah Reigh casts web and starts interrogating them. They say Stagefright has gone out to get milk, as they ran out of tea for their coffee, and will be back soon. 1 darkling escapes; Mord threatens to burn them all unless they help. Pippa asks how to re-attach shadows; you join the person with their shadow
After much discussion; Gah Reigh finally releases the web; Mord walks up to him, lifts his chin and kisses him
Gah Reigh casts find object on StageFright's sceptre; we find him talking to Charmay. Mord tries to take the sceptre off him; he succeeds and Charmay stares daggers at him, then casts Nocturly and random objects animate and start moving toward Mord; he Misty Steps away, leaving the group surrounded
Meela also Misty Steps away. Charmay argues with Bah Reigh, then casts invisibility. StageFright is a dick, then dashes away. Bah Reigh offers Pippa a ride on Maggie to get away, she reluctantly agrees, tires to keep as much distance as possible, eventually jumping off the horse. The objects disengage, and the rest of the party follow him
Mord uses the sceptre to unlock the jai doors; he finds a room with three empty cells and one occupied room. He hears a voice, and holds out his cross; it is taken from him, then booped on his head and released. Mord casts darkness so no one can see; she casts Fairy Fire so he is visible but it doesn't work. She tries to grab the sceptre, cackles and tries to leave. Mord dispels darkness
Mord opens the last cell door; Glister is lounging on a bed. Mord picks her up, against her will; the group convinces her to come with them to find her sister so they can escape.
They stop by the Shadow theatre, to try to get Gleam's shadow; she tells us we have to kill the shadows to reunite them to their people. Mord and Bah Reigh kill all 11 shadows
Taryn and Pippa are bitching about the toxic males
They rescue Hurley, Meela's sister etc; the sisters say the eclipse can be symbolic, using props.
