The Crown Tourney

Come one, come all, to the greatest show of martial prowess the world has to offer. An event that only comes about once every few decades unless very specific individuals become very unlucky very quickly, which pulls soldiers of honor and fortune from all over the world to participate in contests of physique and skill, and to possibly achieve fame and fortune. Not to mention the prizes available if you do well.   The nation of Nimuæ is perhaps, the most monarchist nation within the known world, and I'm not certain anything could change that at this rate, and I'm fairly certain that the majority of the populace would resist such a change. This enjoyment of crown and habit of eras past are born from the countries mythic origin, but that particular story will not fit within this page. Suffice it to say, the long line of the royal family and all of it's attributed legendary deeds has resulted in a great period of mourning and then celebration across the country in the event of the crown ending up on a new head.   Whenever the current holder of the crown dies, be it from disease, accident, or war, and after a period of mourning is allowed, the royal family puts on the Crown Tourney, with the festivities lead by whoever is to wear the crown next. There will be food, performers, and general revelry for days on end, only building as the Tourney comes into full swing.   At first, things like general athletics. Races, tests of pure strength such as wrestling, holding ones breath underwater and other competitions of endurance. Then they get a bit more intense. Tests of archery and horsemanship or more refined arts like singing and dance, such things that one must train to do. Once those are done, the Tourney will reach it's penultimate conclusion with the classic sports of Melee and Jousting.   Of course, there are many ancient tourney games that one ruler may entertain in comparison to another, but the general structure of the Tourney is always the same.   Those that do well can win vast sums of money, prizes such as finebreed horses, or powerful Manifestations. If one catches the eye of the new crownholder in any of the competitions you may even receive an offer of employ with the government. An often lucrative position to have.   Once the tourney has been completed, victors graced with their prizes, loves exclaimed and hearts broken, then the closing ceremony will commence and the focus returns to the royal family. With an exultant crowd watching, the crown will be officially bestowed upon it's new bearer. Once complete, the final throws of the celebration will commence with greater vigor than ever before.    Eventually, such celebration will burn itself out and attendees will slowly filter away, leaving the country to fall back into it's normal routine; the new ruler starting upon a good foot in all eyes.
