Personal history

Marjorie Breakspear was born in the spring of 1080 ABA in the city of Rosengard to the House of Breakspear. She was the first of two children of Jarl Normun Breakspear and Lady Cecilie Breakspear (Nee Grimm). The Breakspears had been closely connected with the region of Rosinhill for several generations serving as the Jarl of the region. They had also been loosely associated with the Royal Family with her grandmother having served as lady-in-waiting to the Queen Mother of King Regulus. Her parents were hoping for a boy to carry on the family line, and no name was chosen for a week until they settled on Marjorie after her paternal grandmother. Within the family, she was also known informally as "Dolly", a reference to her dolly like porcelain skin.   In the following summer, Marjorie was blessed at Rosengard Abbey. She grew up with younger brother Merion, who was known to be a very troublesome child. The Breakspears lent their estate in Montheus High Town to an uncle of King Regulus, whom Marjorie would stay with since childhood when visiting the capital. The royal family frequently visited at the neighbouring region, and Marjorie played with the king’s daughter Princess Hilda. They would often be teased by the princes, including the First Prince of Enther, Magnus. Marjorie was seven years old when her parents sent her for her to be a lady-in-waiting to Lady Bane of Shimmerton. Her father had suggested this while they focused on making Merion a more suitable heir to the title of Jarl. Marjorie's relationship with her brother was particularly bad. She resented Merion, whom she called a "bully". On one occasion Marjorie pushed him down the stairs and he broke his arm. Though she was chastised, her father often commented how she would have been a more suitable heir than Merion. She became known as Lady Marjorie after she came of age.   Marjorie met her future husband, Prince Magnus often in her childhood. He would often tease Marjorie and his sister Hilda and she found him to be irritating and immature. However after she left at age 12 to serve Lady Bane, she did not see him for four years. After meeting again in 1098 ABA at the betrothal celebration of Princess Hilda and Wayland Bosvell, Marjorie—despite never being fond of the prince—fell in love with Magnus, who was already betrothed to be wed, and they began to exchange letters. In 1099 ABA Magnus called off his engagement and announced he would be marrying Marjorie.   The engagement attracted some controversy. King Regulus had not given his leave for Magnus to call off the engagement, and her brother Merion had brought disgrace on the Breakspears who had married the daughter of an Iphite merchant who had later given him a bastard. King Regulus’ Royal Seneschal wrote, "Some of the King's advisors did not think her good enough for him. Yes she was a lady of a well respected house, but the family had fallen in disgrace and the family of the former bride to be were a powerful family. Bards played long and loud tunes on the string of Marjorie’s failing family and how she would be responsible for a civil war should they marry."   Before the marriage, Magnus attempted to renounced his titles, officially passing them to his brother and thus relieving him of his responsibilities, however this was rejected by King Regulus and the royal council who felt that the situation could be remedied. Shortly before the wedding, Magnus travelled to the scorned family and begged for their forgiveness. This was granted, with none of the parties involved wanting this situation to descent into civil war. Magnus and Marjorie were married in the winter of 1100 ABA at Montheus Cathedral.   During the first years of marriage, Marjorie felt the pressures of being a member of the royal family. Despite their trying, Marjorie was not able to carry to full term. Rumours begun to swirl that it was a punishment for Magnus breaking his betrothal.   King Regulus’ health declined during 1102, and Magnus frequently stood in for him at public events. When Magnus visited Oskuwa in the spring of 1105 his private seneschal, carried a draft accession declaration in case the King died while he was gone. In early 1105, Regulus and Marjorie set out for a string of royal visits of Onderfel and Undrus by way of the Silent Isles. Their tour would end with a month stay at Magnus’ grandmother’s castle, Queen Alisabeth Ostragar. A week into their stay, they had just returned to capital of Ivergard, Albion, after a night spent hunting in Ivergard’s vast wilds when word arrived of the death of Magnus’ father. Marjorie broke the news to the new King. He was proclaimed king throughout the kingdom and the royal party hastily returned to the Kingdom of Enther, accompanied by his grandmother, Queen Alisabeth and her royal retinue. With Magnus' ascension to king, Marjorie became Queen Marjorie.   During her time as Queen, Marjorie's public opinion became more and more impressive, with her becoming a favourite of the commoners though some nobles still scorned her. She became a patron of the arts and of hunting. Often she would visits the woods surrounding Montheus to join hunts, as well welcoming performers of all kinds to the castle to preform. Like her husband, she became fond of Pantaloons and regularly had them preform for her.    After a decade of miscarriages, Queen Marjorie finally carried to full-term. Prince Bann Hackonson was born in 1110 ABA and was pronounced First Prince of Enther and heir to the throne. The kingdom rejoiced for the birth, none more than King Magnus, who now had an heir of his own.   Marjorie was a doting mother to the baby prince. She refused to have a wet nurse as was tradition for nobles and insisted she breastfed the prince herself. As her son grew, she would teach him about the arts. She would have him sing for her, songs of the Old Kingdom were her particular favorite.
