Royal Catacombs

Nestled within the hidden recesses of the Royal Gardens, lies a grand catacomb, a sprawling underground labyrinth that extends beneath certain sections of the garden's serene landscape. Originally conceived as a sacred resting place for the descendants of King Matheus, this crypt is a testament to the reverence accorded to the monarch's lineage as well the other royal houses who have ruled since.    Concealed within the heart of the Royal Gardens, the catacombs stand as a testament to the kingdom's enduring respect for its monarchs and their descendants. Over the years, the catacombs have become a repository of the past, a place where the memories and heritage of the royal lineage are preserved and honored.

Purpose / Function

The place of rest for all the Royal families of Enther, both Matheuson and Hackonson.

Design

As you descend into the depths of the catacombs beneath the Royal Gardens, you enter a solemn realm where history, tradition, and reverence converge. The subterranean passages are hushed, illuminated by the soft, flickering glow of candle sconces mounted along the walls. The air is cool and heavy with the weight of centuries, carrying with it the stories and legacies of the monarchs who rest here.   The catacombs are comprised of numerous chambers, each devoted to the memory of a different monarch. The most renowned and beloved of kings and queens occupy grand, spacious chambers, where their regal insignia adorns the walls and ornate tombs stand as testament to their enduring legacy. These chambers are meticulously maintained and are a testament to the reverence bestowed upon the kingdom's most famous rulers.   In contrast, minor members of the royal houses find their eternal rest in smaller, yet equally dignified, marked graves. These chambers are adorned with modest plaques that bear the names and titles of these lesser-known royals, a reminder that each contribution to the kingdom's history is acknowledged and respected.   One of the most poignant and revered sights within the catacombs is a serene chamber, its centerpiece a magnificent marble statue dedicated to King Magnus and Queen Marjorie. Commissioned by King Magnus himself before his passing, this lifelike statue immortalizes the couple in a state of eternal embrace, just as they were in life. Side by side, they rest beneath the gentle illumination of a softly glowing chandelier, their likenesses a symbol of enduring love and commitment.

Entries

The catacombs are accessed through an unassuming yet elegant marble mausoleum, distinguished by the distinctive sigil of the first king, King Matheus, etched above its ornate doors. This mausoleum serves as the gateway to the subterranean world below, where the history and legacy of the royal bloodline are entwined with the very roots of the garden.
