Jef's tower

About 15 miles southeast of the Great Gate is a tower on top of a steep mass of rock. It's difficult to climb it since the rock is about 75 feet high; the first 30 feet are sloping rubble but the rest is a nearly sheer cliff. The top of the rock is a rough grassy circle about 50 yards in diameter.   The tower is round with one main entrance into a large chamber about 20 yards in diameter with a stairway going up the side of one wall to the next level. The ancient stonework was carefully carved and set, and the tower remains mostly intact. It contains some rubble, rusty metal, and pieces of crockery. The second level might once have been living quarters but it is mostly empty. About 1/5 of the ceiling has fallen away but stairs curve up along the wall to the top level. A wyvern has made a nest which covers most of the top of the tower. It's not possible to see from the bottom of the hill whether the wyvern is home or not; it is often away for long periods. There are two chevrons carved into the battlements, pointing southwest and southeast, which might point the way to other towers or structures.   Jef, a member of the race of Gargoyles, lives there. He is friendly toward Foraging Parties and may give them useful information, since a gargoyle's main hobby is observing what goes on in the world below their perch. He speaks strangely accented Common slowly. He does not know who built the tower; it was abandoned when he arrived, about 300 years ago.
