The VATHYRA family is a weakened Aenari shorelord lineage that has been suffering at the hands of THORNS for the past decade. As VATHYRA initiated the conflict in the hopes of annexing Thorns land and peasantry they have seen their fortunes reverse slowly but steadily. The ongoing conflict has devastated their lands as several hamlets have been burned out and the peasants having fled for safer surroundings. This has exacerbated their situation as their revenues have been reduced and they continue to take losses from the ongoing conflict.
By the end of the 50’s ET, the conflict has resulted in several deaths and hard feelings on both sides. While any further attempts to seize land are unlikely given VATHYRA’s position, the raiding and bloodletting continues on its own momentum these days.
The VATHYRA line hails from a prominent Aenari lineage and has held lands along the southern coast of Aenar for over 130 years. The splintering of Rhone cost them dearly in revenue and power as their politicking was rendered sour by the upending of the traditional alliances. With the WIDOW’s BARGAIN and the loss of the Eorldom of Thorns, the Vathyrans attempted to expand their lands by annexing a small village that flew the banner of Thorns. While their calculation that stalwarts from Rhone would not come to Thorns aid was correct they underestimated the numbers and tenacity of the PRINCE OF THORNS. Assuming his youth would steer him astray, the Vathyran advance was stopped in its tracks by the canny new nobleman.
This setback has soured relations throughout the Aenar lands and has spiraled into ongoing skirmishes, raids and property destruction. While VATHYRA held their own in the beginning, the Prince of Thorns bolstered his ranks with several families that had been unlanded during the Bargain. By the time several years had passed, those minor nobles had taken up swords and oaths on behalf of Thorns and Vathyra found itself steadily outmatched. By the mid-50’s, the Vathyra family had lost several hamlets due to the raids from Thorns and peasants fleeing the violence. Once I got dome with my major actions, I called it a deay
The situation on the border remains tense and the Vathyra forces constantly harass and force ‘tolls’ from travelers and traders that pass through Sterngate in Thorns.

History
The VATHYRA family invested heavily in their people and settlements over the years and slowly grew in revenue, population and power. Before the Queen’s Crusade, they had finished construction on the new stone tower that warded their expanded lands and were laying a heavy hand on the machinations in Aenar.
The VATHYRA lineage is old Aenari as they were one of the last influential families that were granted lands under the banner of RHONE. Prior to their bending the knee, the VATHYRA family were active in resisting the encroachment of the KINGDOM OF RHONE by blood and fire. The Vathyran matriarch eventually came over to Rhone’s banner once it became obvious that their taking of traditional Aenari lands was inevitable.
