Presumptuous Lords
The Presumptuous Lords were a grouping of lords and knights that conspired together to seize control of the capital city, Rhuvael, in 22 ET. The conspiracy was short-lived though as the threat to the capital brought together much of the Eorls and nobility to cast them out. The first year's campaign ended in defeat as it was hampered by factional conflicts. The Eorls did not bring their forces to bear as they were dealing with raiding and other threats to their own lands. The Battle of Oakstand resulted in a quick and disordered withdrawal by the collected would-be liberators.
In 23 ET, the Eorls brought their own influence and troops. They quickly converged on Rhuvael and laid siege to the capital. The 1st Battle of Rhuvael was a victory though it took several months of careful siege as many were reluctant to cause damage to the city. The Presumptuous Lords by that time had squandered any goodwill that some stability may have generated in the smallfolk. It was the citizenry of Rhuvael who slipped liberation troops into the city to catch the Lords unawares.
There are only a few survivors from the inner cabal of families that took Rhuvael.
It is believed that the 2nd son and sole heir to the Aldyr line, Saerid Aldyr, escaped the wrath of Rhone. His location or death has never been determined with any certainty.
The adult knights and leader of the Bashamon were mostly slain in the attack. Unfortunately, a fire broke out in a tower quartered for the family so much of the family's non-combatants also perished. A single adult member survived to execution. There were only two children that survived the fire. One, a girl whose name was not known, perished from her injuries a year later. The boy child that survived was taken in by the Eorl of Swords and raised charitably as befitted his rank. See Nanris Bashamon.
The 1st son and heir of the Pemolrin family line was found wounded and unconscious in the days following the battle. He confessed completely under Church pressure as he was faithful son of the Holy Creed. In return for his cooperation, which revealed much of the knowledge even known today regarding the Lords and their plans, the Church forced the liberators into allowing him to throw off his iron and name; he entered the clergy and lived out his days in a monastery near Vael Lake.
