Blackmere River
The BLACKMERE RIVER was so named as in times of large volume and velocity of water it has been known to appear black to the eye due to a specific silt. It is born from a branching of the Icewind Falls flow. The river runs fast but often low unless it is in the spring. Due to the river getting its start in the mountains the spring thaw can send a torrent of water down the Giantspine Mountains and into the Sea of Winds. But it is only up in the mountains that one is forced to cross through the water directly as its velocity and longevity have carved a deep fissure into the lowlands path that the river runs through it. This makes crossing in the low country arduous as well as dangerous.
The only crossing over the gap is the Blackmere Bridge which is maintained by the Raven Circle.
