Sawtooth Mountains
The Sawtooth Mountains are an expansive range of forested mountains stretching across the central region of the content and disappearing into the Elucid forest. Like it's sister range, the Noble Mountains, the Sawtooths do not present a navigational barrier through their sheer height, as even the tallest peak is devoid of glacier and is dominated by spruce and pine. Rather, the mountains form a vast network of valleys and gullies as the range folds in on itself and the dense foliage and steep terrain make for daunting trek.
"The Iron Dwarves tell the tale of how Moradin's Maze [the Sawtooth Mountains] were created, a legend passed down by their soothsayers from the beginning of time. In this legend, the ancestors of the Iron Dwarves were embroiled in a desperate battle against the titan Grolantor. Unable to withstand the onslaught of the giants, the Dwarves called upon Moradin to save them. In answer to their prayers Moradin forged a great maze to confuse and confound Grolantor and his army of hill giants, as everyone knows they are very dull creatures. Thus the [Sawtooths] where made, and the legend claims that to this very day the hill giants are doomed to roam aimlessly through the low valleys, forever lost in Moradin's Maze." - Of Monsters and Mountains, Folklore of the Western Mountains, by Gerald Bemoff DR 1524
Geography
A dense, chaotic range of green capped mountains, the Sawtooth Mountains stretch from their parents in the Sundown Mountains to encircle the heart of the Elucid Forest. The even the tallest peaks are below 6000ft in elevation, but nonetheless form a daunting navigational challenge, acting in concert with the Elucid Forest to essentially divide the continent in half.
Fauna & Flora
The boundary between the Sawtooth mountain range and the Elucid forest is blurred, lost somewhere in the meandering valleys. As such it is no surprise to find an abundance of flora in the Sawtooth mountains, but with the trees and other vegetation demonstrating less of the Elucid Forest grandeur as one goes further north and west along the mountain range's extent.
