Elucid Forest
Ancient and forbidding, the Elucid Forest lays at the heart of the Emerald Lands. The forest is believe to be sparsely inhabited by the races known to Faerun, although it is estimated a few hundred Wood Elves call the forest home and are native to the land, presumably the remnant of whatever population existed during the reign of the Tamen Empire. The forest is bisected by the mighty Ilanis river. This river is the artery of the continent, providing passage from the coast to the northern steppes.
Geography
The Elucid forest lays in a massive basin formed by the outstretched arms of the Sawtooth Mountains and the flood plain of the Ilanis River. The forest's southern border is formed by the Valley of The Sun and on it's eastern flank are the aptly named East Downs. To the West lay the Sawtooth mountains, and to the north, the vast steppes.
Fauna & Flora
The Elucid forest is remarkable for it's massive trees. Trees of all species appear to grow in size in proportion to the depth of the forest. The further one explores the greater these trees become. Although these massive spires should blot out the light, the forest is always a-glow in the daylight hours with a soft green light, that is, for the portions that aren't hidden in shifting shadows.
The forest's edges appear unremarkable, but the creatures that inhabit it leave no doubt as toward the arcane nature of the forest.
"The flora and fauna of the Elucid Forest is not like that of other forests. I doubt it shall ever be tamed, even by the threat of fire and axe. Now, I know that old goat Lord Sarri claims he'll bring the forest's riches flooding into the sword coast, but he under-estimates the magic of the forest, and the creatures of pure evil that seem to reside in it. This fails to mention, of course, the fey-kin! What fool would mess with a sacred forest? ....ah, well, I digress. As I was saying...." "The stone tablets of the Iron Dwarves indicate the forest to be at least 7000 years old, the product of two worlds merging. Surely, the Second Sundering brought with it many oddities of time and space, entrance to this world among them, but our scholars do not believe this "merging of worlds" the tablets speak of is related to the Second Sundering. Rather, the accounts of the native wood elves and the information brought to us by our own expeditions, lead us to believe that the two worlds mentioned in the Dwarven account are in fact the planes of the Feywild and the Shadowfell" - Lord Sabastanian , Arch Sage of the Xenon College, 1570 DR.
