Psychocybin Deer
Psychocybin Deer are one of the many species of sapient animal that live on the Psychic Planet Psycalia. They are mammalian deer with a majestic pastel purple fur and white bellies and 3-5 spots near the rear end. Their most defining feature are the Euphorium Mushrooms that grow out of their backs, white with splashes of lavander, taffy bubblegum and fucia, along with some light blue. They have small antlers if they are present at all, relying on their psychic abilities to attack instead.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Psychocybin Deer resemble white tail deer in terms of body as a whole, with long legs, fairly large ears and a short tail. They have four legs with hooves that are split in two. They also have small antlers, rements from when they used to live outside of the forest.
Biological Traits
Roots from the Euphorium Mushrooms that grow on them that connect to their back and, through contact with nerves, indirectly into the brain, causing them to process infomation faster then normal without causing them to detatch from reality. They can release the spores of Euphorium Mushrooms as an attack, which distort the target's vision and make them dizzy. They must be careful when taking care of their Euphorium Mushrooms however, as overly supressing their growth leads to depression and apathy and letting them grow uncontroled leads to free-floating anxiety or even a psychotic breakdown.
Genetics and Reproduction
They reproduce sexually and gestate for 6.5 months before giving live birth. They often mate within the fall or winter.
Growth Rate & Stages
Psychocybin Deer are considered fawns from birth to 4 years of age, kids from 5-12, teens 13-19 (at the start of which they gain their antlers) and adults by 20.
Ecology and Habitats
Psychocybin Deer live within Psycalien forests, as they are immune to the electromagnetic wavelengths that trigger psychosis in most other species.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Psychocybin Deer are herbivores, eating exclusively plants, mostly shurbs and the leaves from Ethereal Oak and even some Amber Daffodil as snacks sometimes. Due to the fact that they live in Psycalien forests, they seldom had to leave and get more food or flee from attackers.
Biological Cycle
During the Summer, Psychocybin Deer spent their living close to the prairies, on the outer ridge of the forest so they could stay close to outside plants for food but also remain covered by fog. During the Fall, they would retreet deeper into the forest, as the fog starts to grow less previlent. During the Winter, they spend their days deep into the center of the forest. By Spring, Psychocybin Deer stay deep within the forest until Summer comes and makes it too hot for them to remain in the cover of the trees.
Behaviour
Psychocybin Deer are welcoming and chill, although finding them might be hard knowing how they hide within forests. If threatened, they will use their psychic powers to create illusions to confuse the attacker before fleeing. They often live in small groups within Psycalien forests. Psychocybin Deer tend to be rather shy and will only leave the forest during the summer in the cover of fog. They are natrually curious despite this and will like to explore as much of the outside as they can and enjoy meeting outsiders. If They were getting chased by an attacker, they would lure them into the forest, leaving once their attacker gets lost in confusion.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Psychocybin Deer often live in groups of 8-12. There are two different types of groups, the permanent ones led by a matriarch, and the temporary ones of exclusively mateless males led by the strongest male. The Matriarch leads her group to lakes and fruit bearing trees, even outside the forest, but she often has her mate assist in running the group, often as a guard to protect some of Psychocybin Deer if they go outside the forest if she is busy taking care of young fawns. The male groups form during fall or winter as to show off to any female Psychocybin Deer, acting as wingmen to one another, once all the males get mates, the group is disbanded.
