The Kingdom of Erast
The northwestern region of Aetrios, from the western coast to the Blackstone Mountains in the east, the region of Erast was once the Kingdom of Erast. Her capital city was Ironhaven, a great city built around and upon the Great Tor, a lone mountain of granite rising from the plains next to the Silver River. Once a dwarven trading outpost used for commerce with the peoples of Erast, the dwarves retreated below the mountian and gave control of the surface city to King Turest I Erast, retaining control of the Great Tor itself and mining rights within. Below the city sprang up the Undercity of Underhaven, a city of goblins, drow, and dwarves.
Culture
Myrrish culture was the dominant Mannish culture in the cities of Erast. The surrounding region, however, was a mix of the peoples that made up the kingdom, from dwarves in Ironhaven to the halfling populations throughout the realm. The elves held lands in alliance with Erast along the coast and within the great forests.
History
Long a bastion of peace and cilvilization in the far north of Aetrios, Erast was unfortunately doomed by its own nobility. Dynastic succession and political intruige have been a plague on many kingdoms and Erast was no different. The death of King Turest II Erast began an almost decade long struggle to see which of his children or grandchildren sat on his throne.
His grandson, Prince Perric, a sullen young man, declared himself heir to the king and began an open rebellion against his uncle, newly crowned, King Corvin II Erast. His forces being backed with foreign mercenaries brought from the League of Etria proved to be near equal of the armies of the King and his allies.
Seven years of conflict resulted in the almost complete decimation of the male heirs of Turest II. The war ended with Perric being assassinated by a former ally and the surviving heirs abdicating the throne in favor of a more democratic government located in the former capital city of Ironhaven.
Disbandment
The surviving heirs of Turest II abdicated the throne following the assassination of Prince Perric and a push from the guilds and common folk. Handing over governing to what would become the Azure Council in 19 BCG, the heirs faded into everyday life and eventual near anonymity.
