Old Town

Old Town is the original settlement that eventually became the city of Aquinas.

Demographics

The poor and unwanted live in Old Town. The majority are Men with the occasional family of half orcs. Halflings and gnomes aren't uncommon, but mostly dwell in warrens underground.

Government

The Watch only go into Old Town when the Church looks to make a show of strength. The rest of the time the people of Old Town govern and protect themselves.

Industry & Trade

Trades and businesses seem as uncouth or "dirty" by the upper classes of Aquinas are entirely relegated to Old Town.
Leatherworking, the more rough types of smithing, fishmongers all ply their crafts in Old Town.
One of the more intriguing aspects of the district is the Thieves' Market. The Thieves' Market is an open air bazaar where all manor of illicit items can be bought or traded. The only exception is slavery, which is strictly outlawed. The market is always held in a different area and has no set schedule, but opens up at least once a month, weather permitting.

Infrastructure

Old Town is a labrynth of streets, alleyways, bridges, and winding switchbacks.

Guilds and Factions

Rival gangs and thieves guilds vie for control of the illicit trades and businesses of Old Town, but legitimate business still thrives here, despite the poverty of the inhabitants.

History

Old Town was a fishing settlement on the Bay of Beylon. It was inhabited by Men of the Southlands and a few clans of Stout halflings.

Architecture

Ramshackle timber-framed buildings sit side by side with fieldstone towers and the white stone walls of Aquinas.
Old Town is said to be cramped and filthy, but that is not the truth. In fact Old Town is as joyous and bright as any other district in Aquinas, especially at night or during festivals.
