The History of The Elatonian Empire so far
The empire you find yourselves in has been in place for millennia. Its founding dates back to Empress Elatonia herself, who founded the empire during the events now known as the Planar Conquest. Few records exist of that tumultuous time, and only the most learned of scholars truly know anything of what occurred.
What is common knowledge though is that since its founding the empire has known both peace and safety, and it shall continue to know such things so long as an individual of Elatonia’s bloodline sits upon the Shard throne.
For millennia the empire has stood the test of time and emerged victorious against any threat. Under the rule of their various Emperors and Empresses the empire has prospered into a bastion of magical, technological, and artistic endeavors. Things were not perfect, the poor still existed and struggled, but far less so than in other realms. Life in the empire was good and prosperous, until the rule of the current Emperor.
Current Species & Cultures
The Empire was once twelve separate nations, forged into one by Elatonia. As a result it has been a diverse place filled with various races, cultures, and creeds all intermingling. This elaborate mix of people have dwelt together in relative harmony, save for one brief flare up. That conflict is now referred to as the Five Year War, yet another thing that only students of history will know much about.

In an era where survival is a desperate struggle agains both the empire and the world. Cooperation is needed but rarely used.
