Sultanate of Ghwor
The Sultanate of Ghwor was a territorially contiguous nation which existed in the northern Sahal Sahira region of Ærellion, originally known as the Emirate of Ghwor. Ghwor was originally ruled by a dynasty of former Al'salaan governors of the region under the Uthmarid Empire of the Holy Successor, and after the fall of that Empire they continued ruling the region as its Emirs. Ghwor was later conquered by the Taltas Sultanate, but would soon be broken off of that state by ambitious generals. Unfortunately, it would not last long in its second iteration as it was soon destroyed by Taltas tribes migrating into the region.
History
The Emirate of Ghwor was a generally weak nation even at its founding, as its northern frontier was consistently harassed by Taltas tribes and the majority of its populace was made up of Sholi peoples who resented the Al'Salaanic governors-turned-Emirs. Consequentially, Ghwor was a nation that was consistently unable to project power during its existence, and only survived the conquests of the Fatimi Empire of the Holy Successor thanks to the wars between that state and other more powerful Uthmarid successor states taking the Fatimi attention.
Ghwor was invaded in the early 1480s by the Taltas Sultanate, whose armies swept through the region by 1484, and took it as a bulwark against the Fatimi. During this period, the Taltas did their best to replace the Al'Salaanic ruling class with a Taltas one, installing military control over the positions and garrisoning armies to fight the wild Taltas tribes in the region, taking many for slaves, with this same fate befalling a number of Sholi as well. With effective control over Ghwor being established by the Sultanate, following the death of the Taltic leader Arslan it would come to be used as a base by one of his lieutenants in the following conflict over succession.
In 1501, having failed to make headway against the main body of the Taltas Sultanate, a truce was signed, expanding Ghwor's domain and raising the Emirate to a Sultanate as compensation for its ruler dropping claims against his former comrade who now ruled Taltas, Asal Bakun. During the following two decades, the Sultanate did little except participate in the slave trade, though upon the death of Asal Bakun in 1519 the Ghwori would once more make a play for the Taltic throne. This was mildly successful, and its ruler was crowned as co-Sultan of the Taltas and Sultan of Ghwor within a few years. This, however, did not last long as in 1527, a new confederation of Taltas tribe migrating into the area successfully overran Ghwor. With its Sultan embattled in the Taltas court and his armies mostly garrisoning in that nation, it was an easy target. With the loss of Ghwor, the Sultan was killed and his forces subsumed by his co-sultan in Taltas, and Ghwor faded into the annuls of history.
Although Ghwor itself was destroyed, the city of Ghwor, seat of the sultanate, remained somewhat prosperous over the next few centuries, with control changing hands between various wild Taltas tribes and confederations. It was only finally abandoned after the Orcish invasions of the late 19th century. Today, Ghwor's former lands are almost entirely under the control of the Great Maw, and the remaining human population is slaves or worse.
