Startouched

The first thing one notices about the Startouched, also known as "The people of light", is their skin, for it is ever-glowing and cycling through colors with their mood. Startouched shed a light in a wide radius around them. This light is always pale, as the light of a star during the night (from this they received their name), but is tinged with the color corresponding to their emotions. The skin of a startouched appears whiter than should be possible, and clearly glows with an inner light, which accounts for the color changes that appear. Nonetheless, their skin can always be said to be pale white, as opposed to their shine. Because their emotions quite literally show in their skin, the startouched are quite trusting of outsiders and do not suspect them to of lying; being that no startouched beyond the age of five would consider lying. They rarely even consider lying, as most have not lied since before the age of five. Because their skin clearly shows emotions, startouched are quite advanced in terms of psychology and therefore rather peaceful. In a pinch, however, startouched can flash their light to blind enemies, this act is considered taboo when used against another startouched (essentially mutually assured destruction) but against other races it can be useful. Startouched do not physically age, instead their light peaks during late puberty and dims as they age. When a startouched no longer glows, they are considered nearly dead, and usually have only days to live at most. A startouched which stops glowing will quickly make all necessary arrangements and then usually attempts to die doing something he or she loves. Startouched do have to ability to manually suppress their light, but this takes an extreme amount of energy and can kill them if they try to do it for long. Physically, Startouched are rather tall and ethereal. They do not have any hair on their body except for their head, and are unable to grow beards. Their hair ranges from blonde to reddish orange. The startouched have a primarily elven ancestry, though with some human ancestry and with the infleunces of the shadow dimension.
There are two main groups of startouched, the protectionists and the crusaders. The protectionists are those who mainly want to defend against the shadow dimension, keep their communities safe, and tame the lands, hopefully rehabilitating the Voidheart along the way. On the other hand, the crusaders want to go on a warpath, destroying all the voidheart, bringing light to every corner of the shadow dimension, and rooting out evil wherever it may be, no matter the cost.
