Empire of Åavens Relvets
The Empire of Åavens Relvets is one of the most recent and powerful of all Voðeren states established in southern Telgren. Åavens Relvets was established after a Voðeren invasion of the Relvetsian Empire managed to kill the Relvetsian Emperor, plunging the nation into a succession crisis. The Åavens Relvets were able to make use of their strong position to secure control of two regional rivers, capturing the major city of Sirbeskiy. Wisely, the Voðeren would opt to not pillage this city as they had many others, instead making it into their capital and renaming it to Åavenshold. From there, the new Empire of Åavens Relvets would be proclaimed. The next several years would be spent stabilizing their power base and reorganizing the regional governments. Åavens Relvets would establish an alliance with both the Konuger of Öbortritia, a previous Voðeren invasion which had since become a vassal of the Relvetsian, as well as the Konuger of Sarsvinger, which had long been an independent Voðeren territory. The new Empire has proclaimed its goal is the reunite the Relvetsian peoples under new stewardship, to end the discrimination and favoritism present in the former Relvetsian Empire, and to force an accord between Voðeren and Relvetsian. Their dedication to this plan remains to be seen, but as they prepare for expansion once more, this seems certain to be tested. It will certainly be a perilous road for Åavens Relvets, however, as being too favorable to the Voðeren will inevitable lead to revolts, while too much forced mingling will certainly see the Voðeren assimilated into the Relvetsians instead of ruling them.
History
The history of Åavens Relvets is really the history of one man: Erik Åagssoun Svjol, a former Jarl and second son of Konug Åags Thrawnsoun of Svjolheim. Svjolheim was defeated by the ??? in the Þaru Wars of ???, and Erik's father and older brother (heir apparent) would die in this conflict. Svjolheim was then partitioned between the victorious powers. Erik was offered a sum of ??? to leave the kingdom and never return. Erik then swore an oath that for 7 and 70 years he and his kin would not return to the island, as the traditional Voðeren oath goes. In for swearing the oath, he was allowed to take his personal guard and household, as opposed to being exiled by himself.
Erik first took the loyalists to the island nation of Osligø, where he had major invetments and property. After recruiting men there, he landed on the shores of the Empire of Relvetsia in 1977 SC, marking his first steps into his future domain. From the beginning, he was clear to his men that they were on a mission to forge a new home and not a mission to pillage, henceforth the men were instructed to only use scorched earth if it was tactically necessary. While there were a few instances of questionable "tactical" looting that were let slide, by and large the men obeyed, with those who did not being subject to strict discipline. A few small skirmishes had put their number around 9000 by the time they reached the fateful battle of Vispliev. The Relvetsian Emperor, eager to dissuade the constant Voðeren raids, had planned a massive charge to break up the host of what he assumed were undisciplined raiders. It was not to be. His armies charged uphill into a fortified position in the pouring rain, in what would become a massive slaughter, not that he would live to know. Erik's army would escape with just under a thousand casualties, the Relvatsian one suffered ten times that of a force of 35,000, and much of that number being the nobility. The peasants who remained would flee, and much of the remaining nobility would too after the panic of the king being found dead. Immediately, the Relvetsian Empire dissolved into squabbling nobility, and Erik's march continued. After learning of the chaos, he would send half of his men back to the coastline to contact the women and children and bring them into Relvetsia, while the others came with him to search for a new capital. In 1980 SC, they would find it. The city of Sirbeskiy was situated near the confluence of two rivers into the greatest of Telgren's rivers, hence being a major trading stop. It had, however, fallen on hard times due to the Voðeren invasions downstream. Erik was confident he could reach an accord with the ruler of this region, and therefore chose to make the city his new capital, renaming it to Åavenshold. Shortly thereafter he would proclaim the Empire of Åavens Relvets.
