Emperor Erik Åagssoun Svjol

Emperor Erik Åagssoun Svjol, formerly of Svjolheim, is the first and current ruler of Empire of Åavens Relvets. Details about his invasions and conquests are covered in that page.
Erik is the second son of the former Konug Åag Thrawnsoun of Svjolheim, and was the only other child born to him. Erik was appointed Jarl of one of the regions of Svjolheim at the age of 16, to prepare him for being his brother's right hand, but never had much interest in ruling. Instead, Erik took to sailing as early as 13, and became a successful merchant by age 20. In his travels he met the willful daughter of [someone epic], Thurise [dynasty], who had refused all men who wished to marry her due to them being in her words "Willful idiots, scrawny fool, and old lechers, all". She had instead taken to the seas and pretended to be a man. In her male disguise, Thurise (going as Thur), became fast friends with the young captain and Jarl. After her disguise was reveled following an injury, Erik accepted her on the ship anyways and the two soon fell in love. At this point Erik was 25 and his lover 21. Despite Erik's acceptance of her, the presence of a woman on a sailing ship made much his crew unhappy due to their superstition and so Erik returned to Svjolheim in order to try to find a better crew. While on his way home, he learned that the Konuger was being invaded by rival powers in the Þaru Isles. Hence, Erik rushed home, and even captured a [tbd] ship along the way thanks to his courage and daring. Upon his arrival home, he gathered up as many men as were willing and rushed to meet with his brother and father, but was too late. By his arrival, the two were already dead in the battle of [tbd] and their armies routed. Thus, it was left to Erik as the technical new Konug of Svjolheim to make peace. In order to spare further lives he asked for his own to be forfeit in exchange for leniency to the people.
Perhaps it will never be known how he convinced them. Maybe it was his charisma- after all, Erik had raised men who would not have been asked to go to war otherwise- signifying his people's loyalty. Maybe it was his lover, who had travelled to the frontlines to fight, even as a woman- showing how those with him were braver than expected. Maybe it was his reputation as a commercial expert- after all, why make enemies of the merchant folk. Maybe, even, it was his honorable conduct when capturing the ship he did. Of course, it could also be that his proposal moved the invaders. Whichever of these reasons, however, the result was clear. Instead of executing him to keep the peace, the invaders struck a deal. Erik would leave Svjolheim and not return, he would bring his household with him, and he would receive a sum of ??? as compensation for forfeiting his Konuger. Erik agreed to leave, never having really been content in Svjolheim. He then swore the traditional Voðeren oath, pledging that he and his kin would not return to Svjolheim for 7 and 70 years.
Erik gathered his household and left Svjolheim for the nation of Osligø in 1974 SC, where he had a small house. He would use a small sum of money to buy a country estate for his people to rest and recover while he prepared for what was to come. Making no secret of his plan, Erik recruited 10,000 men in total to help him in his ambitious next step- an invasion of Relvetsia. Erik wanted to carve out a new domain from Relvetsia, and he wanted to marry Thurise as a Konuger, not as a merchant.
Erik gathered his army in 1977 SC, and loaded them onto his fleet, some of which were hired and some of which were properly owned by him. He landed in Relvetsia, defeated their Emperor, and proclaimed the Empire of Åavens Relvets by 1980 SC. Originally, Erik had planned to merely declare a new Konuger, but the scale of his victories made him consider his new domain an empire. At this, he finally married his longtime lover and set out to restructure his new domain. Erik wanted to create something wholly new, not just focus on building on the corpse of what he felt was a nation destined for failure, and so his ambitious reforms would need years to progress. The surviving men (around 8,000) were not enough to really build a power base, but Erik encouraged them to intermarry with the Relvetsians, as well as encouraging Voðeren merchants and others to settle. His capital city would receive an influx of Grenholl Voðeren following Gorm's conquests in the regions, and as of around 3 years ago the capital city seems to be majority Voðeren or half-Voðeren. By this point, Erik's reforms have largely been completed, and all that remains is to prepare a new army to finish off the squabbling rump states of Relvetsia and to complete the next stage of his plan.
Since Erik's crowning as Emperor, he has had 3 children with his wife, two of whom are twins. In 1982 SC, Thurise gave birth to a daughter, who the pair named Astryth. Thursie also gave birth to twins in 1985 SC, named Harald and Yrid. Following these births, and the securing of the succession, the pair agreed to stop having children for health reasons. Astryth, the eldest, is an unusually graceful and beautiful young woman by Voðeren standards who is expected to marry well and expand the nation's alliances. It should be noted that Astryth is eager for this and does want to marry a lord. However, her parents have wanted to wait for the right moment, her mother especially being wary of trying to marry off her children too early. She has a bit of a temper when angry, but is otherwise calm and diplomatic. This is not so for Erik's other daughter and youngest child (by 3 minutes), Yrid. Yrid behaves a lot like her mother when she was younger, and has refused to even speak to most boys, besides her brother, who is her rival/friend. Yrid is the most adventurous of all the Svjol children, wears men's clothes like her mother once did, and more often than not comes home from the forest muddy and scratched up. Finally, Harald, the heir to the throne, is a diligent scholar but very competitive. Harald never really cared for swordplay until his sister goaded him into it in one of their many arguments. Since then, Harald has trained relentlessly and now wins their sparring more often than not. Too bad he hasn't picked up on Yrid's archery skills, or her new weapon, the spear, so she still teases him.
