Chiefdom of Yeongwan
The Chiefdom of Yeongwan was an ancient state, primarily in the modern regions of Bakatyeong and Junyeong, which existed between 1000 BC and 306 BC when it was destroyed by the Wanyun of Auwaejo. The remants of Yeongwan's court founded the direct successor state of the Kingdom of Bakatyeong following the loss of their rich eastern lands. Yeongwan was the most powerful state of the pre-Wanyun period, and it reigned supreme throughout to ancient times and the period of the Three Kingdoms. Despite its long dominance over the region, the state is not well documented and its ethnic makeup is unclear. It seems likely the state was a mix of proto-Jungyu and proto-Guwaaric peoples, but which of these two was dominant is up for debate.
